Glad you're ok man. The bike looks to have taken a huge impact. I was wondering if you are having the frame checked? I'd be interested to hear the results if you do. I'm not saying anything bad about the K5 frame but I am curious how it held up.
Nice exhuast btw.
I would also liked to have the frame checked, but I am in Korea and I don't think there is such facilities here. I'm going to check that out, but in a country that as far as I know doesn't even have a decent dyno up and running I doubt there is any place to get a serious evaluation on the frame

Yeah, a 70 mph crash and the bike didnt break the frame, i hope this is enough for the naysayers out there to finally pull their head from their neither regions and realize the frames are ok

and luckily after that downer, so are you!

Thanks for all your replies guys. Appreciate it

2500$ for the Yosh exhaust shawn-g.
Quite expensive, but felt the bike needed something special.

That really sucks about not having anywhere to check the frame. I wrecked at 35 and my frame was bent. You couldn't tell until everything was back together. If your forks came back and cracked your radiator your frame is bent. Most of the time the frame will bend before the forks, escpecially with inverted ones.

Sorry to hear that man.. I also dropped my K5 this past weekend.. my situation was a little different and my issue came from not following my instincts and getting the fuck away from riders when I know better...

But like everyone said.. you are OK and can always buy a new bike.. cant say enough for wearing good gear..

Actually I think there is good chance the frame is not bent. The radiator was not damaged by the forks, but took a hit on the side by the filler cap when the bike hit the barrier.

Hmmm.....seems it is becoming a common thing for the 1000 gixxers to be laid down when fairly new. I have heard dozens of stories about people laying them down when only a couple months old. Don't feel too bad about it and glad to hear you are ok.

It was not your fault. You can clearly see in the pictures the weld were about to give way. This caused the frame to flex and threw the suspension and geometry off causing the bike to go down.

Trust me I know metal and welding even though I have no training or experience in either field. But I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night and got high and banged a 50 year old grandma.

Oh I was waiting for the frame deal. Thanks for not disappointing, but sure did take long enough to come up. Clearly this one is defective since it didnt break like the hysteria would have one beleive.

Comeback, sorry to see those pics. You are truly fortunate to not have been thrown into traffic so this was a good outcome all things considered.

I dont think your frame sliders worked that well. You may find some oblonging of the thread. Should stay intact and not bend.

Dont know what insurance is like there, but just put it in the dustbin and get a new one. That's me, I like the easy way out

Well I think the reason the slider is bent is that the bike just didn't go down in this lowside, it hit down hard for some reason, skidded around in circles before hitting the barrier wiht it's right side (bike pointing opposite direction from where I came) and then bouncing out again and taking a hallf turn before coming to a stand still.
Impossible to determine exactly what happened, but it might have hit some of the reflectors

I don't know, but if the slider didn't bend wouldn't that put a lot of pressure on the engine mount and possible cause damage?
I really hope the thread isn't too damaged. In that case I could make some new thread could I not?

I would sure like to hear some opinions on this cause I just oredred a set of new sliders from R&G, but wouldn't like to ride around with them if they bend too easely.

Regarding the insurance it is plain and simple here in Korea.
You don't get any full coverage on bikes here.Period.
I know it is hard to believ for most of you but that is a fact. I guess this is the downside we have to live with in a country were you don't have to worry about the cops AT ALL. That is also a fact.
So I am stuck with it as it is and need to fix it one way or another.

Now all you need is a Verizon phone "Can you hear me now?!?"

Damn, Comback!!! I'm sorry you had to let her go down, but I'm glad you made it thru ok.

When I opened this thread, I couldn't believe what I was seeing - thought maybe those were pics of someone else's rashed K5. You being one of GDC's more experienced riders, I was surprised to see this. But, it's cool bro - shit like this can happen to anyone, and that section of road looks pretty tricky to negotiate at that speed if enough care isn't taken. I don't see those bumps in the road, but if they are pavement ripples leading to or running through that fairly prominant off-chamber turn, that's a recipe for distress. The K5 probably lost both tires in the turn! You think the pipe's can may have touched down first? That may explain your friend seeing the rear off the ground, I think you said.

Well, that's quite a bit of damage. I agree with the rebuild plan. With damage probably exceeding well over a third of the cost of the bike, you may as well rebuild her with some quality shit that's going to make her a bit better. Good luck, and just relax - you know most experienced guys have been bit like this. I choose to believe that experiences like this can serve to raise a rider's level of awareness, riding skill and knowledge, making you an even better rider than before.
