maybe its the key? or something stuck down in there? you could take it to a locksmith first and see what they say about it

 

The key comes in and out of the switch but it won't open it.
And it does open the gas tank and the rear seat!

 

Take it off and take it to a locksmith. They can fix it, and you won't have the hassle of multiple keys, which would eventually lead you to the same locksmith anyway.

Its only connected by a few security screws and once you get it off its actually pretty easy to take apart. you can get the bits at your local hardware store. :cheers

 

If thats the case imma take it off and look for a lock smith.
Buttt if the switch is done does any other switch from another gsxr model fit ma baby??

 

Are you sure your steering lock isn't froze up? Hose it out with some electrical parts cleaner and then some silicone lube.

 

When it first got stuck it was for summer so I dont think its frozen. Can i spray with wd40?)
But does any one know if the switch from another model fit my k4 600???????

 

try the graphite lube first, it is made for locks.

 

try wiggling ur handle bars... sumtimes its the lock that gets stuck cuz the bars are to much to one side... has happened to me before

 

The ignition for the 1000 doesnt plug into the 600, i can tell you that much
I have a extra ignition, with key, that works... if you want to buy one cheap
But have you checked all the obvious? Have you tried to turn the handle bars from one way to another (they move a little even though its locked) if it is turned too hard to one side, the key wont turn on (or off) at all, just move the bars a little and turn it. The same thing happens if you take your key out of your car completely,and then turn the steering wheel real hard. The wheel will lock, but if you try to put your key in, you cant turn it, unless you turn the wheel a little bit first. Im not sure if this is what is going on, but i can see it happening to someone newer (relative to your post count).

If this doesnt help, i DO have an EXTRA ignition and key (meaning i have no use for it right now) that i am willing to let go of.All you gotta do is offer me enough to take it to the post office and put a couple bucks in my pocket for the drive.

Keep in mind you then have two different keys for your locks, so if you keep putting the wrong one in, over time, im sure you will end up in the same situation. I would keep the keys on two different rings or atleast mark them.

Frozen as in stuck. Not frozen as in cold.

 

better off replacing it than it freezing up again and having to leave your bike or getting stuck somewhere .etc.

 

if u keep ur bike outside and it rains, this can cause it. I have had the same problem before. I usually just gave it a little time and it was fine. But I have been told that spraying the cleaner or lube down into it helps. I have never done it but think I would do that first.

 

spray cleaner and lube in it. this happened on my truck when i first got it with the door locks.i sprayed wd40 in them and wiggle the key around and now they work every time i use them.

 

if its anything like my dodge dakota ignition cylinder was doing (not turning,m key comes in/out easily). i finally got the key to turn (after 2hrs in a parking lot), drove home, and removed the ignition. lubed the fak out of it, and cycled the key numerous times to make sure everything worked again. reinstalled the ignition, and havent had a another issue since.

so i recomend lubing the cylinder. i lubed in the key hole, and on the outsaide where the 2 mechanical pics ride up the side of the lock. thats where i think the issue was at.

 

I regularly wd40 mine. It gets a little stiff to turn after rain sometimes

 

Heres what i did i took it off air blowed it with an air gun,then wd40 the crap out of it let it dry for the nite next day i put it back on anddd no luck.Then i took a look at the key and and looked bent and wasted?) So i drove to pepboys made a copy of the key and waalaaaaaa worked like new thanks for the help!!!!!!unkunk

 

:lol the key is the very first thing i would have tried. damn suzuki for making such soft keys that can bend and crack as easily as they do
