If it were me? I'd drill out the pop rivets, disassemble the can and buff it up on the bench polisher with the appropriate mops and polishes. And then re-pack with new exhaust wool, re-rivet with stainless rivets.

And I might have a go at the rest of the exhaust while I was at it

 

remove the polish/wax from header after buffing or it will discolour with heat and look ugly.

 

If you pull it apart, I would be interested in some detail photos of the inner baffle and packing and such. Haven't pulled an RS-3 apart, but I do have a full ti/cf Duplex race system... and interested to compare with past pipes I've had open.

Here you go crisp,im pretty sure this can is gonna be way quieter than the one i have on now, its stuffed pretty tight. Im wondering how much will it affect afr, ill get a bung welded in tomorrow for the sensor. Lets see how it turns up.

It also came to my attention by looking at my currently installed manifolds that there might be some size differences, so i measured the rs3 manifold but as i dont have time anymore today to remove the old one and check, can anyone confirm fitment ? I think im in a bit of trouble now :hammer

 

Nice job on the clean! You could always wrap the wool looser, for a louder sound. Might change the pitch a bit though.

 

Yes im excited to put it on and test it for afr and sound aswell but im worried it might not fit, i put up a pic of the measured headers, hoping someone might tell if they will fit my manifold before going through the trouble of removing the old one first

Curiously, that baffle (perforated tube) appears to have a greater reduction in diameter than mine???

Can you get a caliper measurement on that? I wonder if there are different configurations even in the "RS-3" series...?

Im sorry crisp i reassembled the can ! I wish u asked me earlier but i will try to stick the calipers in there and see, do you know by any chance, based on the pics i posted if the headers will fit my 1127 ?

 

If it was for the 1052, I think the header pitch and dia is okay but sump clearance MAY be an issue? I am not certain and all my headers are piled up at the old cottage house to compare...

That could be possible. The RS3 is not really "period correct" for the Oilcooled bikes but there is always the possibility that a newer can is combined with older headers off course.

 

What do you think based on the pic i posted with measurments ? Ill be working on her in a little bit

 

I have mounted period correct (slabby-race) can to an RS-3 complete race Ti system and it is a straight slip-on. (1052 race system can with Duplex RS-3 Ti Race system for '03 GSXR1000) Of course, I am pretty sure headers are completely different.

Went to put the headers on and they dont fit :hammer the guy who sold them to me has an akrapovic full system but the can is huge, dont know if i should take them or what. Anyone here owns a set of those ?

 

I have an Akrapovic system with a different silencer on it (carbon Quill), a brilliant system, it might not have the links with Suzuki like Yoshi, but they're right up there with anyexhaust you can buy - fantastically well made, the best over-all power curve and really light. I've had a few Akra exhausts on my bikes over the years, have all performed very well. They fit really well, 4 headers slide fit into the collector and link pipe slides into the collector outlet.

 

^^^ I have installed a couple Akros as well. Excellent construction, looks and performance value, even though I use Yoshimura systems overall.
