When I bought my bike from the previous owner, he had let it sit outside quite often. Now the front reservoir and the black casing for the controls (turn signal, starter) are fading pretty quickly. Is there anyway I can restore the black to its original goodness? Ive read some stuff about linseed oil, but am not real sure.

Thanks doods.

I saw a greek fella on utube, get palstics back to black using a heat gun.......seemed to work pretty well.

I used shoe polish once, the old fassioned type that you rub on then brush off. It works okay but anything that touches it gets black marks.... so I just bought a new bike.

Thanks for the tip Eeekroar, I'll look for that.

I use "Nu Vinyl" and it works just as it claims. Dull, sun-faded, blotchy, grey plastic trim becomes dark, smooth, and glossy. Small scratches are completely hidden. Easy to apply without buffing. It lasts 6 months or so. I have had the same bottle for 15 years. It is definitely worth a try.

black to black will just wash away and or fade after a short time frame.

we use a product at my work called perma-fix. its a plastic repair type of aerosol spray. when we scuff or discolor interior trim pieces from removing them to repaint new cars (we do auotshow cars for GM), we just spray a little on and it covers/rejeuvinates(sp) them back to their original color.

most other products like black to black, trim shine, vinyle shine, ect are all coverups and will not fix the issue. you can also remove the controll parts, and paint them with a product called "trim black". its a matte, no gloss trim black paint in a rattle can.
