Ok, so the f'd up alternator bolt isn't fixed to my liking, but it's doable for now and I'll take another stab at it shortly. BUT... I have a small oil leak coming from around my oil filter. I'm not too worried about it yet. I am going to change the filter sometime this week and take a closer look to see if there are any cracks or what's going on in there. Here are some pics of the leak......

Here is where I saw it dripping down.... front right corner of engine...

With a closer look you can see where it is dripping down from. Now I just need to see behind the oil filter to pin point some more....

and here is the naked girl in the driveway today. I did put the tank on today (not hooked up, just bolted in) but already had the camera put away. I'm still running off of the iv for now.

why yes....yes it does. Only has the bladder problem when it's embarrassed because it is being parked that close to a minivan... :shifty

in the 2nd to last pic if you look at it just right it looks like the reserve tank is a tongue and the bike is sticking its tongue out. Is it just me? Imagine the headlights as eyes

:lol it does...didn't notice that.

Man, you guys are just a wealth of knowledge. I got cracks about colostomy bags and my bike sticking it's tongue out... thanks for the help :monkeyface :biggrin

Try swapping the filter out for a new one and wipe down the sealing surface real well and look for any nicks or dents. Make sure you apply a thin layer of new oil to the gasket when you install the new filter & tighten 1/4 turn past hand tight. I know I'm stating the obvious, but sometimes things get overlooked.

Obvious...yes, but I appreciate it. The filter that is on now is one that I put on and I did apply a thin layer of oil on the gasket. When I take this one off to do ANOTHER (3rd or 4th I think in the last 2 months) oil change....I'll inspect the sealing surface better to see if I can see something causing the leak there. I'll post up the results when I get around to that this week sometime.

Thanks :thumbup

Tighten the filter till it strips, then back it off 1/2 a turn!
This torque value was from the Magilla Go-rilla mechanics school!
Magilla is ok, but I often use German torque......Goouwd-n-tight....haaa, whatever you do don't torque it as much as Grape Ape would......what the hell, this thread is all jacked up already!:biggrin

Haaa....Grape-ape, I forgot about him.....thanks!

I always run a rag then a bare finger around the sealing surface of my bikes & cars just to be sure it's free of debris. It would be nearly impossible to be nicked up as the filter covers/protects the
sealing surface.
Sometimes debris falls down as you are installing the filter and gets under the gasket surface. You can also use some o-ring lube instead of oil, if there are and irregularities on the sealing surface as it will fill them in better than oil would!

Looks like the oil is coming from that semi stripped out large allen head bolt with the copper washer in the first pic. Start looking there.

:lol it does...didn't notice that.

:lol :lol :lol Its eyes are probably sooo big from being exposed naked outdoors
!. :lol :spit

BTW... Are you SURE your oil drain down pipes O-rings aren't leaking? Why don't you check to make sure they aren't so you can rule that out. Because that is a common place for a leak to be.

All the oil in the first pic isn't coming from any of those bolts or anything. If you look in the 2nd picture...THAT is where the leak is originating from.

Redman - What "split gasket" are you talking about?

Jake - No clue what you're talking about either.

Thanks for all the help guys.

there are two pipes that run from the head to the crankcase. They are on Either side of the filter. THis is where the oil drains back down into the pan from the head. they are ...Not S shapes but are a s bent they are a bit bigger then my thumb. Can't miss them theres an o ring on both ends,a nd they tend to leak sometimes.

I don't believe that I didn't get any cracks about the minivan in the background of the pics. Come on Ballz and SRAD....I expect more from you guys!!
