My speedometer recently quit working. It just reads zero no matter what speed I am going. Rpm gauge works fine and all other lights on cluster are ok. Just won't count mileage or tell me how fast I'm going. What do ya think?

what you seeling it for and I see you are in Ontario, does it have the option for MPH! I currently have one that reads KPH but it does not switch to MPH!
I plan on pulling it apart Friday night after work to change the plugs and I will take a look at the sensor and see if it's that or the rotor on the sprocket. Hmmmm if it was the rotor or sensor would the rpm gauge not work? Cuz mine does just no the speedometer.
Check to see if the speedo sensor on the front sprocket is correctly screwed in or if it has loosened. Had that exact problem after a garage changed my chain set. Thankfully it was only that, a pal of mine got home from (another) garage when they put other tires on to find out, when checking some strange rattling sound, that he'd ridden home with front brakes' screwes not screwed in, only put into the holes. :facepalm Fucking careless mechanics.
It's more than likely either the speedo sensor or the speedo rotor. The first is in the front sprocket cover, the second on the sprocket shaft, the 4-pronged thing bolted into the end of it.
Have you changed sprockets recently? It's quite common that that bolt works itself loose if it hasn't been loctited and then the rotor just spins on the shaft.
Yeah, I recently had both sprockets replaced as well as the chain and rear tire. I pulled the speedo sensor and all looks ok. I'll check the rotor next
As I wrote in my post last week, many times you only need to screw the sensor's bolt back in, nothing wrong with sensor, only the screw has come loose.
Don't go taking the bike apart needlessly, first now that you put the sensor off and back on go for a ride and see if still doesn't work. If it doesn't, only then go taking it apart. :thumbup
Ok the speedo rotor on the front sprocket was in two pieces. Can anyone find another one? It's a k2 Gsxr 600. The shop I called wants like 90 for the damn little thing.
Still fooling around with mine too! Looked in the service manual on how to test it but don't understand the wiring on how to hook up this device with the 10k resistor. Wish someone had a pic! I'm not sure its my sensor as my plug had problems with the tach, gauge lights and headlight too.
