Shoei RF1000 fogging

Anyone else have this problem? Just laid down a pretty penny (enough, trust me) on an RF1000 Camber silver/black edition.

Beautiful helmet, very light, stable at high speeds. I just feel better with it on. The problem is, even with the chin / anti fog insert (the face guard) it still fogs. I wear glasses, which is also a pain in the ass while wearing a helmet, but I've learned to deal with it. My HJC doesn't even fog as much as this RF1000, and cost me about $300 less. Granted it was a little cold outside tonight, it was still enough for me to have to slow down and pull over once to wipe the shit down.

I've seen a dozen or so different anti-fogging products, which one actually works for the RF1000? I bought some generic $7 spray at the stealership, I tested it on my glasses, it doesn't fog now when I breathe hard, but it just covers the glasses with a layer of wetness, almost like sweat. I'm at a loss for what to do, I love the helmet too much, having it fog is just like a total disappointment.

Suggestions?

my old rf1000 did the same thing. like you said it was a great helmet but i guess they never really put much thought into that part of their design. it only gets semi cold down here a few weeks out of the year, but when it was cold or just rained it would fog up like the backseat at prom night. ive read good reviews on the respro foggy mask. they claim to completly eliminate fogging. my freind has a scorpion and he says that it never fogs up at all, even when he tries. they are heavy lids though. my suomys never fog at all either, but they might up north in colder weather.

I put a breath guard in my Voltage and it actually made it worse, directing the air right in behind my glasses. Took it out and gave it to somebody who didn't wear them.

With the new Picotte, I left both of the included breath guard and chin piece in the box. The best way to beat the fog is to crack the visor and breath downward on those c*ld rides.

They certainly do have a bit of fogging problem, alot more then my old RF700, but the helmets have so much other stuff going for them, it's a minor irritation that can be dealt with. Ventilation on hot days is outstanding.

I have used a 'fogcity' before and it worked very well except that you see the edges of it.

you can also try waxing the inside of the visor or even use a crayon on it. I would suggest the neon orange color and I am not teasing. I spent too much money on this 'anti-fog' stick for diving one time that once out of the package, looked exactly like a neon orange crayola. I tried the crayon and it worked as well. It will be hard to buff off but it will come off. you may want to test on something other than your visor first so you will know what you are getting into, but this really does work.

thanks for the suggestions guys, i've tried shaving cream, wiping down the inside of the visor with it, it seems to have alleviated the problem temporarily.

i've also heard of 'pinlock' systems, apparently the company who developed it has a deal specifically with shoei to fix the fogging problem, so it can't be that bad. but drilling holes in my visor seems a bit extreme.

i'll try out some of these suggestions. thanks.

It's the best anti-fogging system I've ever tried, period :thumbup My XR-1000 (European designation for the RF-1000) came with is and it NEVER fogs on the part covered by the inner visor, even if the area around it is fully fogged :cool

i had a RF-900 which fogged as well. Little did I know that I had a built in defogger installed in my body. the shield fogs when either the outside or inside air is noticeably denser (ie colder). given this fact, when it got fogged, i either blew air INTO the shield or downward from my mouth to outside the helmet. after a few breaths, you should be able to regulate the temp inside the helmet, and your fog problem is gone. if you breathe heavily inside your lid, you will fog up the shield due to the moisture/temp.

1. Cheap trick from paintball- put a drop of dishwashing soap (not dish washer but the soap if you wash by hand pomolive seems to work the best) smear evenly on inside of the visor and once teh entire shild is coated take a dry cloth and polish off. It stays slightly foggy due to the soap but is pretty good about not fogging

2. Go to any paintball shop/ online store and pick up a bottle of JT Majik antifog spray. It is pretty waxy and works the best.

Both is these also work on glasses... or my favorite

3. Buy an Arai with the cool shield vents or a suomy as mine rarely fogged unless I was stopped. that is down here in Houston in 90+ percent humidity and riding with dewpoints almost dead even to temp.

I read somewhere that if you spit on your shield and wipe it down it will eliminate fog on it. It worked for me so yeah u take it as u want...

Get the Pinlock shield, specifically for your helmet.

It works as advertised, and will NOT fog.
+1 thats what i use. plus they come in different colors.

1) Yamaha brand Anti-Fog spray = doesn't work. Creates a thin layer of wetness / film on the visor if you breathe on it.

2) Shaving cream = works. I thought it was bullshit when I heard about it, but, I tried it out on a few spots on my bathroom mirror, then my visor - and it worked. Try it out, you'll see what i'm talking about.

3) Changing in breathing - I tend to breathe more 'downwards' now than anything, instead of just breathing straight forward. This helps regulate the temperature in my helmet a little bit, and keeps the fog away.

So, a combination of the shaving cream + breathing technique leaves me with no fog, at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions in this thread, it really has been helpful defeating our elusive and cloudy enemy.

interesting....when i first bought my rf-1000, i didnt put on the anti fog insert for about week. i would fog up with each breath and it really annoyed me. then i decided to try out the insert. i could TRY to make it fog, but it would barely fog up for a split second. that anti fog insert did wonders for me, but maybe its because i don't wear glasses.
