Rearsets.. I can't decide.

I've been looking at rearsets for several days now and I've been reading old posts to see what I should buy. I really like the look of the Sato's but the Vortex and Harris sets don't look bad either and they all seem to have similar features. Can you guys that have purchased new rearsets tell me what you bought, why, how much and if you like them? I'm leaning towards the Sato's from Corey at Motomummy but I have a friend that will give me a good deal on the Vortex. Any good pics would be nice to. Thanks:cheers

Sato are outstanding with Gilles at the same level.

You cannot fairly compare Sato and Gilles with Vortex.

Sato and Gilles have outstanding craftsmanship and precision.

I prefer Sato and they have never let me down and have not yet found anything better.

My friend has Gilles and they are awesome but again I have had Sato's on several of my bikes and they were flawless.

I would imaging you can't go wrong with either and I think Corey sells both.

Just throwin' this out there.

They're not at the level of Sato's or Gilles, but they were cheap. There's a little play in the levers once installed, but they work just fine. No probs for me @ the track. I got them because they were cheap (on sale) and were VERY adjustable for tall riders - 1.5" of adjustment.

I bought the first set off eBay on sale for $250 - they somehow failed to ship then, so when I finally complained a week later, they air shipped them to me AND refunded me $100!

Then, when I unfortunately needed a replacement peg and lever set...I purchased off their site and due to lack of stock they simply ended up sending me an ENTIRE new set of rearsets (for what I paid - I think it was $100).

In the end, I got TWO sets of rearsets for only $250 + shipping.

Good customer service, that's for dann sure.

pretty hard to beat the craftsmanship of the ghilles ,just be sure to lock tite every single nut and bolt on them when you get them ,because they are shipped loose .

everyone seems to be copying the satos ,like lightech and others ,i guess the design is easy to duplicate .

I have those too, and they work flawlessly. I've had them for over a year, no issues at all. Save yourself some cash, and get another mod.

+1..I have Gilles on my GIXXER and Sato on my R1. Both are top quality and replacement parts ARE NOT hard to find.

I have a set of Gilles I picked up from www.motomummy.com Corey is a site sponsor and just GREAT at providing good prices AND good communication. He cares about the big purchases and the little guys just spending a hundred dollars on brake lines.

I can get parts cheaper from motomummy than I can at the dealership where I work :scratch

Here is a pic of the rearsets I have. I love them. One of the better things about the Gilles is that you can replace parts like the pegs and heel guards without having to buy a whole new set.

when you crash, good luck getting replacement parts for either the sato, harris, or the gilles rearsets.

why do you think most club racers (non-sponsored) use vortex? they work well, and you can get replacement parts extremely quickly and cheaply.

get the vortex ones.

These do look tempting.. What's the other side look like? Does it work with the stock brake switch? I wonder if I can get these with alum heel guards, I'm not a fan of carbon.

You definately cannot go wrong with either Gilles or Sato, they are top notch, I honestly would suggest those primarily for street riders though.


As was mentioned, for track junkies that need readily available replacement parts, I would say Vortex and Woodcraft would be a better choice. They are cheaper and replacement parts are much easier to get a hold of (and cheaper too).

Question for you MotoJB, curious do those OSF rearsets have provisions for the rear brakelight switch?

OK, these have my attention. Can buy them for $239 set and they have needle bearings and alum heel gaurds. Theu look pretty trick and I can get them in black which is my second choice after gold..

When you say there is a little play in the levers, is it any more than the others?? At this price ( I believe you get what you pay for ) it makes me think they must be junk but are you saying they're good? If Sato are a 10 and woodcraft is a 1, where do these fall? Thanks for the help.

I'm not really a track junkie, I'll do maybe 2 or 3 track days this year and probably around 5,000 street miles. Woodcraft don't seem to be very good to me but I do like the Vortex at $339 set. I didn't think buying rearsets would be this difficult..

If you like the Vortex check out Sum of all Parts on eBay, they have a rearset trade in deal (at least they used to, maybe they still do). If your rearsets are in good shape you can send to them and they give you a set of Vortex in return and knock off like $100 off the price. Check into it.

Hell yeah, I found it and they still do it. I think it's going to be hard to beat that deal.

Although... If I bought the top of the line Sato's from Corey and sold my stock set's on e-bay for $100 I'd be pretty close to the same price. What's a good used set of stock rearsets go for? I also have both the stock pegs and solid mount woodcraft pegs for mine.

Is it this hard for everyone else to make choices on bike parts or is it just me??:wacko

Dan Kyle Racing has all the Sato parts you would ever need. I've gotten replacement parts from them with no problem.

These are an 8 then. They don't have quite the same fit and finish, but I'm a picky MOFO and to me they're FINE.

The bottom line is, I'm not going to pay $400+ for a set of rearsets. As others said before, if you go down, you want cheap parts readily available. OSF is in that category now - along with Vortex which I used in the past.

That being said, OSF has also gone way above the call of duty to earn my business.

What about OSF? USA made. I plan to order a set.
Roller bearings, 1.5" adjustability up and back, and anywhere in between, and clearr or black anodized (too bad there's no gold option), replacement parts available...all for $239

I still may sell my stock rearsets, if I go down at the track, my chances of riding later in the day with my medical issues are pretty slim anyway. What's a good price to sell them for? Remember, I have the solid mount Woodcraft pegs and the stock pegs with them..

The serious track addicts have been voting for the Vortex for years on here.

I have had the other three you mention and for craftmanshit the Harris edges the the Gilles and Sato slightly IMO.....but only just and it doeas not really matter. All top notch products.
On issue I have with the Sato's currently on my K5 is that the peg seems to be shorter which is not good for my large feet. The Sidi Vertigo Corsa boots armour also gets stuck in the heel guard and it is very frustrating. I am going to try and move the heel guard to the inside of the mounting plate and see if that helps.

I will get Yosh rear sets for my next bike.

PS! Rear sets does not have to be adjustable to do their job. If you know approx. how much you'd like them back/up there are many cheaper and good looking fixed sets on the market like Robby Moto, Walter Moto, Woodcraft etc....

Sounds like I made a good choice then..:punk Harris sets on the way..
