Whenever I brake heavily on solid ground, or do any kind braking on really bumpy asphalt I'm getting some strange things happening in the rear of the bike. The rear end seems to "chatter." I can both hear it, and feel it a little. It almost sounds like the noise you get when you miss a shift so I keep looking at my shift linkage, but there doens't appear to be anything wrong with it. I'm thinking that this only happens when I'm about to lift the rear? Anyone have any incite or ideas how to fix it?

Are you engine braking? If you are, the rear wheel will lose traction when you unload it enough with hard braking like you describe. Try matching your revs more to the speed.

I am engine braking. You think its just the tire contiually hooking and letting loose, and what I'm hearing is the chain slapping?

Exactly - don't engine brake that much

Do racers with slipper clutches use engine braking then?
No - and if you look at racers braking hard before a turn, their rear tire is often slightly off the ground...

I know that they do 100% braking with the front, but I guess I never looked to see if they had the clutch pulled in while they were doing that.

They aren't pulling the clutch - just rev-matching

Fast racers do use the rear brakes, depends on the situation. In the rain race I mostly use the rear brake. The front is almost useless when the rain gets really heavy
