GAp insurance is WORTHLESS without full coverage :wacko :lol

Gap insurance pays the difference between "book value" which is what an insurance company pays in a wreck, and what you owe.

It is a good idea especially if you have a LONG loan term (which usually comes with a high interest rate) as the vehicle will deprciate faster than you can pay it off.

I dont think they pay if it is not insured though ;)

+1. im regretting that I opted NOT to get it when i first purchased my gix. paying that extra $400 would sure beat being upside down 1500-2000 (or whatever it would cost) if i bought another bike

So call your insurance company and get full coverage. Unless your bike is paid off anyway it could be illegal to not have full coverage.
Liability is required.

Full coverage MAY be required by your insurance company depending on what state you live in.

When I bought my 04 1000, I was surprised that I didn't have to provide proof of full coverage like I had in the past.

Full coverage is usually required by the lender in case you throw it down the road. And if you're riding a financed bike without comprehensive then that's just a disaster waiting to happen. The only time I really believe gap ins is worth it is on a leased vehicle or if you're accident prone.

And shame on you for buying the coverage and admitting you had no idea what you were doing. Next time you wanna piss $400 up the drainpipe just send me a check. Maybe you can check with the insurer and get a por-rated portion of the premium back?

you gotta have GAP if your bike is not garaged! If your bike sits outside at night and someone rips it off, your insurance company is only going to cut you a check for what's it book value is at the time. If you owe more than that then you're SOL. also like kidder said if where you live you are required to have full coverage which you probably are in most states when you have a loan then you'll really be screwed if it gets heisted. You'll have no bike and you'll still get to pay sombody a couple hundred a month for the next 5 years.

The bike companies don't care if you have insurance....take HSBC which does financing for both Suzuki and Kawi. It's revolving credit. They can care less if you total your bike and have no insurance....you still have to make your monthly payment.

The companies are getting smart with sales....you can get a new bike financed and NOT have full coverage, just liability (State requirement)....selling point for cheaper insurance at the idiot consumers expense.

exactly,,a loan is a loan,,you smack the bike up,,whatever you still owe the bank,,insurance is only good up to book value,,gap does like its name ,,,covers the gap between the book and the loan

With these credit card financing offers you get the title. If you finance through a regular lending establishment (bank/credit union/GMAC ;)) they keep the title until you have made all payments.

gap inurance is GREAT if you have full coverage insurance ... BUT the only bad thing about gap insurance is that it wont pay the 100% difference from what you owe and and what the vehical is worth if you traded in a vehical on your new one and your old vehical wasnt paid off.. then your still left paying a difference AFTER the gap ins is used.

Geico insurance has full replacement value for first 2 years no matter what (at least on my GA policy).
