For that price, the Sidi B2 Sport is REALLY nice...doesn't have all the crazy features of their higher-end boots, but offers great protection and durability, and looks good.

In my book, anything without decent ankle support is out, so I avoid the riding "shoes".

i'd have to go for smx-5. you dont really get the rigid lateral ankle support like you do with the plus but i'd say they're definitely better than the B2. they're also about $50 less

I would recommend avoiding putting a dollar value on things relating to your personal safety. People who have tried to piece together lower caliber gear are almost always disappointed after the fact when they gone down.

Unfortunately, in most cases, the price and the level of safety protection are directly related. Higher price riding equipment will generally provide a higher safety cushion in a crash, from my experience.

were not talking about losing a finder. These are the things that allow you to walk and ride, don't be the one that finds out what you got after its gone !

There are other boot threads in the forum with some great recommendations. suggest searching them out.
I use the SMX and feel real good about it when I pull the drawstrings tight and then zip the zippers up,they will not fly off like the velcro stuff. but the 2009 prices are outrageous high !

Honestly, I have no experience with those at all and I'm not hating on them, but just the shiny colour reminds me of a disco ball. Could those be dancing shoes??

As for riding boots... it all depends on what kind of riding you do. If you do a lot of canyon/mountain/twisty/trackday... or are thinking of doing trackdays then you should definitely get a set of "Race Boots." Sidi, A*, Dainese, TCX are some good brands to check out.

If you're doing a lot of street riding/commuting then you might wanna consider the street riding shoe version of the previously mentioned companies. One of hte most important thing for street riding is ankle protection, ankle protection, and ankle protection. You can always get a knee/shin guard to protect those areas but ankle protection is all within the show and it's one of the things you should look for in a street riding shoe/boot.

I'm rocking AGV's and I got them for about 140 or so. They fit nice, while still feeling comfortable. They go over my leather pants nice as well. I dont know about riding shoes though... They dont seem to give any ankle support.

 

Alpinstars SM-X 5! I do lots of canyons and mountain rides. They are listed for decent pricing I think.

 

So be it... we agree to disagree. Any sort of riding boot/shoe or racing boot is better than tennis shoes.

i bought a pair of Sidi Vertigos last summer for $200 and just saw a black and white pair of Vertigos for 200 just yesterday (might have been newenough?)

 

Used, got my sidis for 50 bucks on ebay They work great and are still quite comfortable despite what people were saying about race boots earlier in this thread. I would go with a full boot over a riding shoe for sure though, protection > style or comfort any day (and nobody that has a pair of sidis on here will tell you they are not comfortable once broken in).
