I wanted to see what riders think about the differences in power and riding position/comfort between the '01-'02 gsx-r 1000's compared to the '03-'04 models. I am going to be in the market for one in the near future and wanted to get some opinions from those who may have riden both models. Thanks!

Had both, not much difference between them, you would have to ride each on the same road, same day to see much difference. The K1-2 was a little more comffy, I think, was a long time ago??

I have had both. Currently have the 03. There is no real noticeable difference in power or handling. The 02 was a little fatter looking and the tank was a little bigger between your legs although I didn't notice any difference in comfort. The headlight refractors on the 01-02 are better than the 03-04 especially if you're looking to do hids. I found the 03-04 easier to work on because Suzuki redesigned the fairings which made them easier to take off and put on. The front brakes on the 01-02 were six piston calipers then they dropped to 4 piston radial mounted for 03-04. I personally liked the feel of the brakes on the 02 better even though they weren't radial mounted. The stock undertail on the 03-04 is nicer and they moved the fuse box from on top of the ram air to under the seat which I like for asthetics.

I am an experienced rider and have had many different types of bikes over the past 20+ years. My last sport bike was a '99 CBR 900RR. I know the newer bikes will have more power than that bike, which I always felt the need for more when I rode it. The CBR was very comfortable and I felt like I was sitting "in" the bike rather than "on" top of the bike, as most of the later model bikes I have sat on and rode. I have been reading up on the different year gsx-r's and these two older year models seem to be very comfortable to most riders. I also like the looks of the older ones too. I need to find me some to sit on and ride.
