Motor builds/bike build take forever! Anyway..... A bolt in my KIT Eckl head was stripped. One of the 6mm bolts on the cover over the gear drive retaining pin.
So, Tonight's project was to drill the damaged bolt threads, tap threads for Helicoil, insert Helicoil, break tab, and install cover to test with TI race drilled bolts.

Hey Chris, on the topic of the zx7rr. Just how rare are these? My best friend claims his 1996 is a true "RR" according to his vin, he says it has flatslide carbs as well. From what ive been told there was only roughly 50 1996's in the U.S. His fairings/tail are not original. How much are these bikes worth?

well, it IS a true RR frame, as evidenced by the square adjustable swingarm pivot blocks.
There were less than 100 and more than 50 brought into the USA in 96 only. It would be worth 5-6K if it had the original subframe and single seat unit, and original paint and plastic and tank (even better if the tank was a rarer one with Muzzy sticker on it).
The RR differed from the R in terms on more adjustable forks and shock, slightly different swingarm, close ratio transmission (you can usually tell a RR motor by pulling off the front right ignition cover, removing the ignition rotor and looking at the timing chain gear....is it made as one piece with the crank (std R model crank) or bolted on and held in place via splines on the crankshaft (RR kit crank to adapt gear drive assy). Of course the RR had flatslide carbs and a host of other changes as it was a homolagation model intended as a platform for superbike racing.
That one looks fairly std with the usual Muzzy pipe and a switch to P model subframe and rear end which loses value (when I say standard I am referring to my perspective from a kit/factory part standpoint).

Wow cool to hear it likely is an rr. The muzzy on it is so loud I can barely hear my bike when we cruise. He got the bike in pieces and had to do all the bodywork and unfortunately it didnt come with any stock body pieces. Its a wonderful bike that he was trying to sell for $2000! I convinced him to keep it. It needs the carbs gone through, i'll probably contact you about that in a couple months. Keep up the good progress on this project, cant wait to see the finished bike!

I remember seeing one for sale on Craigslist in Michigan or something a few times that looked like that last fall, with same back end, for that price.
It was an appropriate price for condition, etc. If he ever wants to sell, contact me, I can find a buyer.

A member on here Sent me a signed Chris Walker print on his #9 Eckl bike as a way of thanks, it'll go awesome with my signed Chris Walker helmet and the 7rr that I am building, as most of the parts came from the Eckl team.

Really pleased you're pleased and pleased to know that there are friends out there, that are pleased to please you.

I need to go over this whole thread again

I personally think the zx7r (96-03), was the best 750 in the 90's. I own a really clean srad and a mint yzf 750 but the 7r that i owned was the best of the three.

All the 750 of the 90's were great, I miss them. Your yzfs were a solid bike too. I had them all, I am just going through a phase, have 3 zx7rr, and the one I am gathering parts for will be true world superbike Eckl team bike, with almost all parts from that team, a few Muzzy.

KIT coolant overflow bottle that attaches to side of radiator (I have the same one on my F-USA bike)

Factory +1/-1 swingarm spindle blocks

Spindle for blocks with constant diameter, unlike RR spindle with change in shaft OD

Ever had that Srad in bowling green KY? I seen one just like it some time back that looked just like it.

ccm, was talking to a guy at work about you and he asked if you worked on other peoples bikes. He wants some mods done to the engine I think, told him I would ask.

Time to time install the Kit long rods on the kit crankshaft.
I already mic'd the crank and rods, ordered plain bearings, Plastigauge and confirmed fit, and installed new bearings (assembly grease between upper shell and rod only, not lower half).
Today got new rod bolts and nuts.
Image

Installed new bolts, oiled crank journal, applied assembly grease to inside of rod bearing to meet journal face, and hand tightened.
Pay attention to weight marks on rods;
*make sure you line cap up to rod using weight mark
*arrange rods by weight in pairs if necessary
*install with weight mark towards front
Put fresh oil on rod bolts to reduce friction and get a better torque reading
Torqued nuts to 18.8 Ft lb, then added 120 rotation to achieve stretch rating.
Done.... New bearings are already in case for crank.
