I am sure most people know this, but I forgot how to do this and tried to find a tutorial on how to do it with pictures! but no luck so I did my own.

Some history: I owned an 07 gixxer 750 couple of years ago and I changed to gp shift once I started doing track days every chance I got and I loved it! But once I purchased my 08 Drz400sm I had so much fun on it that I rarely rode the gixxer even on track days so I sold it. Now, I still have the supermoto and still in LOVE with it (I suggest everyone get one) but I found a great deal on an 2011 gixxer 600 which is what I wanted because I feel like the geometry of the 07 and the 08-10 generation of the gixxer is damn near the same. So the L1 and L2 generation I definitely had an eye out for and can't wait to try it on a track day!

So now how to change the 2011/2012 Suzuki Gsxr 600/750 to gp shift.

First loosen the nut circled and disconnect the rod.

Then take off the clip and the shifting mechanism should come off.

Now if you have the right tools just loosen the nut circled.
Image

Then move it to the next hole on the right.

I did not have the right tools so I had to take the bracket off.

now just put the shifting mechanism back and make sure you put the clip back also.

And Now the most important part. Put the circled part like this! (180 degrees from the original)

here is the original again

Not the greatest write up but better then noting and I very sure you are smart enough to figure it out. Also you may have to set the rear sets back one position which is very easy.

Not to sound retarded but what improvements are there/how much quicker shifting?
same as an affect of a short throw shifter on a car?
Kinda quicker .. short shifter no.

Just matter of preference. Moto gp style makes shifting up gear easier as you will be pressing down .. your calf muscle > your muscle in front of your shin.

Honestly the biggest gain from this would be to track day riders because if there is a long left turn on a track it easier and safer to have the bike gp shift because if you are up shifting during the turn its easier to just push down vs having to stand the bike up a bit to get your foot under the shifter then shift up.

And I still ride mine on the street also and do squid it out with some wheelies and its easier to shift the bike trough the gears when on one wheel with it being gp shift. :)

Do not know why the pics didn't work the first time and can't edit the post

If you have more problems with post just email me at gixxer53@gmail.com and I can send you the process...........Its very easy once you do it.

I don't think you have to move the shifter pivot bolt. It is adjustable like tha factory rearsets.
You do or it hits the engine cover iirc.

Move the peg back too if needed

Is your shifter forward and up?

It has been years since i changed it but I seem to recall the rod hitting the cover when installed properly as gp shift, nit just me but all the people who changed it

i did mine first without moving the pivot bolt and i thought i had more clearance until I got back from testing it.the rod scraped the paint everytime i downshifts(or upshift, cant remember).

yup. fully forward, fully up. you may have had your arm at more of a 90 degree angle. i had mine a little more vertical to get less vertical movement on the shift lever. not as much mechanical advantage at the shaft, but less vertical movement on the shift lever.
