GSXR 600 vs R6: Comparing 2009 Models, Pros, Cons, and Maintenance Costs

What's up got a couple questions I would like to ask the panel out there. I am 33 and have owned motorcycles in the past dirt, and cruiser. My last bike was an 03' 1100 Honda Shadow and was getting bored with it when I sold it. I am very close to purchasing another bike I have narrowed my choice to the GSXR 600 or the R6. Most likely 2009 model.
Anyone who was good pros and cons for each bike. I know by being on the GSXR forum it may be a little bias but trying to get a real response from sportbike community. I hear the R6 has better brakes and I love the looks. GSXR is WAY more comfortable and seems like better overall features. I also would like to know overall maintenance costs as I want to have full expectations so not surprised down the road! Thanks in advance!:chucks

If you can, test ride both and decide what fits YOU better. The R6 is somewhat more track oriented with sportier seating position and more high-end power. The GSX-R is more road friendly with more comfortable position and more low- to mid-range power. Both are great bikes, though.

That does suck, very few dealers allow test rides anymore. Check what brands you would like to ride & see if the factory will be at any dealers, races, bike shows in your area. Sometimes they will give test rides.

I'd go with the gsxr. I've heard too many bad things from yamaha from frame recalls, wheel bearings locking up causing wrecks and ecu issues. Go watch some reviews on motorcycleusa.com and sit on a few though. its up to you in the end

When I was in the position to buy new it took me a lot of research and shopping to narrow down my choices. I liked the kawi zx-6 overall but it wasn't until I rode all of them that I made my choice to go with my k86. On my bike it felt like I was part of the bike and the bike wasn't part of me if that makes sense. Do what oldfart said and try and get some test rides in until you make a final decision. Don't make your choice based on colors and looks because every bike feels different and you may regret it later on.

I sat on an '08 R6 yesterday. . . Not a fan. The seat feels like it's made of plywood covered in vinyl. I'd hate to ride one for more than maybe a half hour. You can't beat the looks, though. . . My next bike will be an '04 R1 in the stock Black/Red paint scheme. Nothing sexier than that bike, except for maybe an '08 GSXR in Black. If I do wind up getting an R1, I'll be upgrading to a more comfortable seat.
