man up? :wtf are you talking about?

i am just gonna go buy a new rear shock, instead of searching for a used one that is more than likely gonna have to get re-sprung anyway.

and no, i'm not made of money, but i make enough money to where spending $1200 or so on a rear shock isn't gonna kill me.
YEAH!!!:punk

they will set your stock suspension for you, don't know if they offer fork re-valves, re-springing, etc...

and cestode, thank you very much i will look into gp suspension...

:cheers
Washington Cycle Works will do everything suspension related that you would want. Talked to the owner today. Great guy....we'll see how it goes.

looks like i will be going the gmd route, thanks for the help everyone. i am gonna wait until after the race season is over though, because i need to get a new suit. the one i have now is falling apart since it has been through a bunch of crashes and is kinda old.

Then you might as well wait until just before the beginning of the new season next year. That way everything will be nice and fresh and ready to rip. :thumbup

WCW is not even in the same league as someone like T-Man, GP or GMD.....not even close.

I agree. I'm using WCW based on Bill Sink from TPM recommending them. If anyone knows him, you know how fast he is. His endorsement is good enough for me especially for my level. Just started hitting the track this year.

I realize this is the club racer forum, but people from every level come here looking for info.

exactly that is why i put what i did, half the cost for the same thing... i mean that helps a budget IMO
i was referring to the "man up" part, that is what got the :wtf from me.

and i have never really been a fan of buying used shit, and if i can afford it, i will buy the item new.

i don't run take-offs for that main reason.

Well IMO a Penske shock is a Penske shock new or used.... if it were my money I would get out lightly with a used Penske like the one I posted above then take those savings and put them in the forks. It's your money and bike though so do what makes ya most comfortable. I know Easy$$ kinda wishes he would have taken my advice on what to buy new vs what to buy used... he was like you though and wanted new on everything.:cheers

What sucks though is having alot of money tied up in something like say a set of expensive Ohlins fork cartridges only to make a small mistake and see the bike cartwheel down the track and see said forks ripped in half..... (true story)

so you really think i would have nothing to worry about buying a used shock? is there any maintenence needed on them?

this is my first bike i am putting aftermarket suspension on, so i am kinda clueless about it. never thought i was fast enough to warrant good suspenders, but from what i understand it is what i need.

Thermosman is who I was told to go with Ant. He doesn't deal with Penske anymore though (only Ohlins) so you'd need to source the shock elsewhere. I got the Penske triple as well, I've been quite happy with it thus far. From what I've been told it's an all around better design than the Ohlins especially for setup and rebuilding.

I did actually luck out and find the shock on eBay (with only a few sessions on it) for 6 hundy, it did require a new spring for my weight. I think you'll be fine with a used one too Ant, they are very easily rebuildable and parts are easy to get a hold of.

I would trust that one from Torrey without question..... The one he has was already serviced recently too. I just had mine serviced a few races back and it's a routine thing you want to do every year or two. I paid $275 for my Penske double on ebay and I couldn't be happier...... well I could if it were a triple but thats ok.

When buying used it's just very important to have good info and pics of what you are buying... knowing the source is a huge plus! I have seen a few shocks out there that I would hesitate to buy but they aren't that common. I just look at the savings vs what I may have to spend to make things like I want them.
