who should i send my forks to?
Peter Kates at G.M.D. Duh! :hammer

He's based out of MA, but also does his thing on site at LRRS. He brings his workshop (huge trailer) to the track every weekend and uses the garage right next to ours (remember, we're in Center #18 ). He's pretty much always there and generally works Fri. & Sat. and races Sun. (but this past race weekend he didn't race, just worked on suspensions).

I cannot say enough about him, great guy & very helpful . . . plus he's at the track and races on the same track.

If you don't use Pete . . . no cookies for you. :dissapointed

(Pete also sells new shocks, but I cannot comment on his pricing. I've always bought my shocks used and had them freshened by G.M.D.)

i am gonna wait until after the race season is over though
Then you might as well wait until just before the beginning of the new season next year. That way everything will be nice and fresh and ready to rip. :thumbup

so you really think i would have nothing to worry about buying a used shock? is there any maintenence needed on them?
Nothing to worry about. Do a little homework and know who you are buying from and what he's selling. The triple clicker Penske on the WERA board looks like a pretty sweet deal. Have a conversation with the guy and get a sense of the situation and who he is. If you pick it up and are still concerned you can have Peter Kates freshen the shock. I have yet to buy a shock new. Really, no need to. :thumbup

buying a used shock is good if you plan to have it freshened.,

$600 for shock
$100 for correct spring
$125 for freshening.

$825 is still a bit cheaper than new.
. . . and sometime your suspension guy will be nice enough to do an even swap of the existing spring for the correct spring (as long as the existing spring is for a somewhat common weight). So then it works out to $725. :thumbup

Just tell Pete you are a racer., and springs and revalve should be all you need........
Yep, just talk to Pete and fill him in and let him know what you want to accomplish (e.g., I'm just a track day guy, I'm a race guy doing 22's and want to get down to the 19's, I'm doing 16's and want to get down to the 14's, I'm a heavy trailbraker or maybe no trailbraking. Whatever.). You will likely want springs, revalve and oil. Also let Pete know your budget, because there are different manufacturers of suspension pieces like Ohlins, Penske, GP Suspension and RaceTech, with different pricing.
