its time for some new tires. as much good things as i've heard about the pilot powers i also heard that they are not good for hwy use do to their softness.. question being what is a good all around tire. i know you cant have your cake and eat it too, but is there a really good middle ground. i would rather sacrifice wear that grip on the road. most of my riding consist of streets and hwy. however i will be going to the canyons more and i plan on going to track days starting next month. any recommendations??

check out the pilot road 2cts. they are the same as the powers, but have a harder center for better mileage.

thats a false statement, they dont have a harder center compound on the 2ct's. The center compound is actually comparable to the regular powers, its just the sides are softer and grippier then the powers. if you arent racing or hitting serious track days look into some sporty touring tires, good grip and exceptional mileage. Bridgestone bt0-21, Dunlop roadsmart's....etc

I'm talking about ROAD 2 ct's. The pilot power 2ct's are the same as regular powers and have softer edges. Road 2 ct's are about the same as 2ct's, but get better mileage due to a harder center.

I love my BT-021's they are awesome. I have had them for 2,000 miles so far and not even showing one bit of wear. I am in a hurry all the time and my tires get eaten up quite fast. These are some strong tires but also stick pretty good.

Just my 2Cents.

that's what I've been using on the street for awhile. i've got almost twice the mileage on the rear as what i was getting out of a regular pilot power and have at least 1500 left in it. i run a regular pp up front.

they've got more than enough grip for canyon riding, that's what most of my miles consist of:cheers

This is kind of a dilemma - sport touring tires would be great for you for the street for now but I would not recommend them in any way on a track, they overheat and get slippery. Best you could do was to get some sport tourers now, then get proper sport tires on for the track.

not to threadjack, but what kind of life are you getting out of the 2cts? i'm guessing i will get about 5500-6000 out of my stock rear, most of the roads are pretty twisty around here and i try to avoid the superslab like the plague.

I'm getting less than that out of a Power 2CT rear, about 4K till they hit the wear indicators - and that's twisties only, no slabbing. A Road 2CT should get considerably more.

I just got a set of PP's for $125 shipped, they were take offs with less than 600 miles on them used to break in a new engine on a track bike. E-Bay is great for take offs! My opionon is you cannot go wrong with the PP's they are good for aggressive street/track days, and decent for commuting.

I run the 2CT's also and they work great for me. I ride really aggresive so the fact that they have softer walls is perfect. Also it's my daily driver and I drive 80% highway. The harder center makes for more longevity. Perfect for me. Everyone has their own favorite. Good luck.

I have a set of the new BT-016's on order. They're supposed to have the soft edge of the 002's for cornering and a hard center for super slabbing. From what I read they're a pretty good compromise for regular street riders.

Profile is pretty round, it won't fall into a turn like the michelin. Some people like that, some people might want the quicker turn in.

I have pilot powers (reg) front and rear im not the most aggresive rider exept in twisties which are few and far between around here, but i dont baby the tires either and actually run 31psi (cold) so youd think theyd wear out faster, but ive put 4500 on so far (guy told me theyd only last 3) and i know i can get another 1500-2000 out of them and easily 2500 if I baby them (which wont happen) so even if power 2ct's have the same center strip they would work fin (imo) never tried pilot roads so i dunno can you lean over as far with them as the regular powers? if so i might try them next.
