LOL... actually I am 28 and just realized that i put 2003 sorry it was a 1993 back in 1996 when I first started riding.. so YES!! it actually was back in the day!!! Here is a pic to prove it was a typo!!
Ah! Typo makes more sense :) I was starting to feel really damn old there.

Back in the day I had a '79 Can Am 370 Qualifier:p (That was 21 years ago....:shifty)

I started on a 1998 stunted out Gsx-r 600. Full cage, +3 in the back and full Yosh exhaust. I loved that bike....

1995 Katana 600...it was crazy HEAVY....
but i LEARNED to ride......rode it one season then lucked up on a 02 1K.....
i think my fear of the 1K made me be EZ on the throttle.... now i'm on my 3rd 1K..

also don't underestimate the POWER and knowledge of the MSF course...that GOLD.....

lol, my first bike was my 2007 GSXR-750, was a little scared after reading all the crap about first bikes and not getting a sport bike, but I like to think I am rather mature, and now after riding it, I am SOOOOOO GLAD I got my GIXXER!!!

First, the PICTURED HONDA RACCOON 50cc turd. GREAT STARTER! HA HA HA! A couple of '70s Honda Cubs (both 50cc) then a Suzuki "Birdie" (Cub copy, but 2-stroke instead of four...) and an SR125 pos, some 2-stroke single air-cooled "Suzuki rambler" or something... an RZ250 punched out, Euro CX400, GS750E x2 etc, etc...

iv been riding dirt bikes since i was 7 years old ..started riding street at 18... i have had so many dirt and street that it would take up 2 pages so my first street bike was 1881 kawaski gpz-550

I rode a 2005 GS500 for two seasons before I got the GSXR. I liked my first bike a lot, I was kind of sad to see it go when I traded it in.

2006 Suzuki GS 500f. Perfect beginner bike. No slipper clutch so you are forced to rev match. Enough power to safely ride on the highway and to get you into trouble, but forgiving enough to keep you alive when you committ mistakes. Easy to maintain, great MPG, cheap parts, and great resale value.

---This is exactly why I rode the GS500 to start - accidentally twisting the throttle while leaned over didn't put me into the trees on more than one occasion :burnout But it had enough juice to still be fun in the twisties and not get boring.

2003 gsxr 750

i was 18, if you are responsible, then you can start on anything IMO... I say a 600 is a great starting spot IF YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE...

but if you think about the normal crowd that rides sportbikes... responsible is not the 1st word that pops in my mind

1881...... wow. DIdnt know Kaw was around that far back :phhht

K7 600 here, I rode dirt for a few years off and on with some friends never raced or nothing then jumped onto the 600. Took the MSF class ( highly recommended ) just before I turned 21, passed that. The next day I bought my k7 and have been riding ever since. I just got some Michelin Power 2-CT's on today and love them, so much more trusting in the turns over stock.
A 600 Is a great bike to learn on :punk
