I would rather be CLOSER to my bike that way I would be more alert to potential thieves.

Plus if the thief breaks into your garage (read: house) it's perfectly legal for you to shoot them. :thumbup
I guess it depends on where you live and what you use for weapons. I've never even held a gun and I kinda don't want to.
I highly doubt they will be unarmed, and I highly doubt they'll be alone. The likelyhood of it being 16 year old punk kids is slim to none. Basically, I will do as much as I can to protect my bike, but if they are armed-got my bike-got a crew to back them up-then there is no point confronting them with or without weapons.

Anything more than the steering lock and theft insurance is too much.

Unless it's something rare that you cherish in which case, nothing short of Fort Knox is too much.

Roughly translated, %1 of the bikes owned by members of this forum.

laser pointers and cameras wont do nothing for the cops to help recover your bike.. just make sure the shed or garage you park your bike is secure and if thieves want to steal it they will really have to go outta their way and make sure you got good insurance... if they want it bad enough they will steal it, simple as that

this is what i use. front wheel is chained to my apt support beam. bike is always covered when im not riding, and armed with a scorpio alarm. if i go outta town for the weekend, i put the gix in storage. oh, and insurance helps too

I could have those axles out in a few short minutes and then it's just lighter for lifting into the truck.

I'm not a thief, just making a point that nothing is safe. Although that sure looks pretty.

The more obstacles that you put in place that the thief has to get through to steal the bike the better. Often times, unless they really want your bike they will just move on to another bike that is less secure. Why try to break into a garage, break chains, disc locks, etc when you can ride down the street and usually find one sitting in a parking lot unsecured?

true, but my alarm would have gone off by the time you removed my bike cover.

Dogs. Dogs are man's best friend. Dogs will protect your stuff, like it was their own. Plus, they are not bad companions. A small dog will cause so much noise, your intruder will PROBABLY think twice. I have 3.
I wouldn't put all my marbles on a dog. A nice juicy steak will take them right out of the equation, unless they are trained properly as a attack dog. But you are correct making them think twice when they do hear dogs barking.
