Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

Since I've had my bike 04 Gixxer 750 I had one clown in a cage at a light say "Nice bike but ya got the wrong one shoulda got the 1000" others have asked why didn't you get a 1000?, One dude in the parking lot at the bike shop who had a 1000 asked why did ya get that slow bike?

To make it simple this is the bike I wanted I could have gotten any of the others R1,Giixer 1k, cbr1000 etc.....

Why do some people look at engine size like its penis size or something

Later i'll probably want a 750 but i'm extremely happy with my 6. I have had racers tell me that a 600 is perfect for the street and a 1000 is overdoing it. I was also told that the 04 750 is the best for the street.

I think the 750 is the best all around motorcycle on the road. A 600 is too much for most people let alone a 750 or a 1000. If I recall, Ben Spies set the pole in the Superstock Class on a 750.
For a guy to say the bike is slow, he is pretty stupid and probley does not know to much about bikes and racing bikes.

anyone that says he shoulda got the 1000 is a straight line cowboy and doesn't know how to ride a bike to its potential. i was out watchin the local race scene and watch a guy who knows how to get down on an R6 spank the local litre boys. he's never been told he shoulda got a 1000!!

Bingo. It's sad but true for the majority of riders. I get the same comments all the time. Even more so now I went and bought a 04 600. I still have my 01 750 and everyone is like "why didn't you get another 750 or 1000?". I tell them I don't *need* anything more then a 600 for the street and anyone who says different is a moron. For the track it's nice to have the 750 for the extra grunt but still not necessary to have fun and go very fast. The 1000 even on the track is a beast. I've rode one and personally would take my 750 over it. It's just so much HP that you have to constantly worry about getting the back end loose exiting a turn, etc.

It's going to be a bad summer with all these new 1000 bikes on the market (ZX-10r, R1, GSXR, CBR, etc). I'm already seeing a lot of new riders going out and buying them. I don't doubt for a second there will be several deaths this season. Already heard of several accidents and totalled 1000's. Last week I saw two R1's and a CBR with less then 150 miles totalled, one guy is in IC.

hey Antonio, next time i'm cruising through the area i'll have to look you up. your bang on about the newbies buying the litre bikes and crashing. took all of 3 days for the first CBR1000 to end up in the bone yard here. no idea about the rider but the bike was bad.

Sure, where are you located? I'm just outside of Tacoma in Federal Way. I ride all over with my group of friends. Waiting patiently for the first run to Mt St Helens.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

people who knock other people for getting a certain bike are fashion sob's who love the bling bling, throwback, "what's really good", wankster haters. If it wasn't for the GSXR 750 back in '85 they wouldn't be riding a sport bike. Want proof? As quoted from the July issue of Cycle World, "The GSX-R has been a constant in the sportbike world, the quintessential distilled superbike for the street from the very beginning. It is the very reason that we have the sport bikes we have today." Case and Point. Tell the punks that when they try to invalidate your brilliant purchase.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

Having owned a 1000 and a 750, the only thing I liked better about the 1000 was the midrange grunt. It was nice for wheelies and getting out of slower corners.

The 750 outhandles the 1000, is less fatiguing, has almost as much top end speed, and is just plain more fun to ride. Frankly my 1000 was just too much of a beast, I'm much more comfortable on the 750 and can turn close to the same lap times on it.

Unless you're a drag racer, stunter, or other straight line type of person, the 750 is a better choice.

(I'm sure the 600 is a great bike as well, but I don't have experience with it so I can't comment)

That you even mention this leads me to believe you yourself are questioning the decision you made on the bike you bought. If you're confident in your purchase, it wouldn't matter either way what others said about it. I wouldn't even respond to some stranger trying to poke a shot at my bike, it's simply that they are jealous (or worse yet uneducated on the 750's legacy).

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

These people don't know what they are talking about. This is the biggest misconception about power, and useable power. Me with my 600 nailed will defintely outrun a person on a bigger bike who can't use all of their motor anyway without getting outta whack trying to control it. I owned an R1 with plenty of add-ons and I like my 600 just as good if not better. When you can wheelie, race, cruise and do everything else with a 600 there is no real NEED for a 1K IMO.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

I couldn't agree more with Bmann29. When I rode my 600 last year, I loved to see folks on their 1ks b/c I would sometimes try to see what kind of rider they were. I found that most people that would talk shit had a testosterone problem and didn't know how to ride.

One time I came behind someone (on a 1K) on the straights and I dropped 3 gears to 11K or so and hammered it...as I was coming up on his heals, I could see the torque of the 1K pulling him back to a straight upright position and he was trying so hard to pull himself back down. Bless his heart...I hope he's still riding.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

as far as stunting, gear it just a tad and u can pull even an '02 6 up in 4th at 110 or so. I've done it with a bounce no clutch!!
So everything else is cake for stunts.

when people talk or tell me they are buying a 1k and have never ridden b4, i give them this 10 min slamming about how stupid they are. so far neither of them have purchased bikes "all talk" or they bought smaller bikes with no regret.

If people ask why i got a 6, i just tell them they evidently know nothing about bikes then. Then we go ride and they love how i just stay right behind them on the twisties "don't like the front" and i'm flying doing wheelies at everyspeed from 110 or so less just like they are. You get alot more praise riding a 6 from peeps, then looking stupid and scary riding a 1k. If they ask laugh and make them feel stupid is all I do. Only a person who knows anything about bikes won't even ask that kind of question. Nothing is wrong with a 1k, but nothing is wrong with a 6 or 7.5

at my last track day = almost 0 liter bikes. The ones that were there 2 of the 5 wrecked. 75 bikes there.

truthfully when i got my 600, it was cause i was dead scared of anything bigger, and a little worried that buying a bike would be a mistake. I've never ridden b4 so it was a big leap. I rode a dirt bike on the road for a few weeks to get use to traffic and how to handle the bike. I didn't get the 6 cause i thought it was any good, i just didn't think i could handle anything else. little did i know i got the 6, the best one out there.

the 750 is the best, buts its just an upgraded 6 is why i say that

i never ridden a 750. just an old r1 for a few miles.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

I wanna make a few points here:

1. Yes the 600 is plenty fast, and more than most can handle (actually more than should be legal).

2. Unless you are on a really twisty road with an average speed down in the 30's. You are not going to outrun a 1k. Sorry to burst your bubble, I had a 600, now I have an R1 and a 750. The six I had would absolutely not touch the R1 once up to speed. At the higher speeds, traction is no longer an issue and the one that can push the most air wins.

3. The 1k's are no longer heavy.

4. The 0.1 sec gain a 600 gets in 50mph sweeper, is chewed up in about 0.0001 seconds on the way to the next corner.

Haha, this all assumes that the person riding the 1k can actually control the power, lets see, who would that be? Mladin? Rossi maybe? My R1 had as much power at 6k rpms as the ZX6R had at 12k.

Sorry to ruin your soggy dream, I love to stir up crap...but it is true. The only redeming factor is that on the 600 it is easier to put the power down and requires less skill.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

well I got my k4 750 in april and I got it because I know it was enough juice for me. As everyone has mentioned handling, weight, power are great on this bike and the six and I don't need the extra hp that the 1k gives. I'm more interested in being a great rider and you don't need the most powerful bike on the floor to prove that trust me. Just tell the jackasses that you got that bike because that's the one you wanted and meet you at the nearest twisties and see what they say...

prev post that wants to stir it up you missed the point, the point is that too many people that can't ride are buying litter bikes just because they are" litter" bikes not because they can ride them because anyone that knows bikes wouldnt ask anybody shit about why did you buy this bike or that, just where do you ride?

Ha, the soggy dream was those with a 600 trying to convince themselves that thier bike is as fast as a 1k. One guy above actually claimed that he was pulling on one on his 600 which is total BS. I remember, years ago, I had a 1989 RS Camaro with a 305 in it. After driving it a while, I managed to convince myself that it was a fast car, because I wanted to believe it. My soggy dream was that my camaro was better than the other cars because of ______, _______ and the fact that it was easier to _________. Later on I bought a 2000 Ram Air Trans Am and realized how stupid I was for thinking a 175hp camaro was fast, I quickly realized that it was a total piece of crap.

Re: Why do they ask.... \"Why didn\'t you get the 1K\"

I ride alot in Europe since im stationed here in the Netherlands and what was funny is when i ordered my k4 600 from the same dealer in Germany i ordered my k2 600 from he told me i was the only American he has sold a sport bike to that didnt want a 1000 or larger, I laughed since 5 of the 6 Americans i ride with all have 1k or larger bikes it seems every American in Europe must have the biggest bike. Most Euros i ride with all have bikes ranging from 600 to 1100, whats funny is and not to brag I can ride a hell of alot better then any of my friends who own 1k bikes. Anyone familiar with the area called ruhrmond in ghermany will understand why the litre bikes dont always win out against the 600's in that area and thats where i ride alot.
