Huh? My TL000R showed almost -zero- loss of compression at 27k with only a minimal amount of increase in "leak down", and the motor lives on in a competitive racebike today (probably two seasons on it now...). Besides, on the Tiller, a simple valve re-grind brings the leak-down numbers nicely into place, so I would hardly call that expensive. ..

Now, onto the fourstroke thumpers: you'r asking a single-cylinder machine that lives on the verge of terminal piston velocity to crank a lot of horsepower... The load on the Giixers is spread over 4 cylinders, and the the bike is rarely run at redline (even Rossi would have a hard time keep it there....).... Sure, the ti-valves will wear faster than comparable steel valves, but not appreciably so... If I get 25k out of my engine without wanting to tear down the top-end, I will be quite happy....
