Can anyone tell me is it worth getting for my k2 gsxr 1000 and what does it do? Would a G-Pack be better?

A smart tre would be what your looking for. It does just what your post says, eliminated timing retarding, and it gets rid of the speed restriction on your bike. Where are you going to go faster than that anyway?:shifty

They dont have one. You have to get the one with the seperate gear indicator(gay) that you have to mount somewhere if thats what you want. I don't need the gear indicator. I love the tre. Its a good trade off. Your gear indicator will read 5th all the time when you shift out of neutral. No big deal to me.

So will my bike get any benefit from a TRE I have a full race system K&N air filter power commander

they seem to be basic. A TRE tricks the ECU, so that the 5th gear ignition map is on all the time. If you really wanted something intricate for ignition mapping you could also try the Dynojet (Dynatek) Dyna200 or something like it from another company. But you will prolly need to put in some Dyno time. Unless you find somebody with a map for your application.

the 6's aren't restricted by the top speed limit at 186, but instead they are limited by terminal velocity (a.k.a. drag, a.k.a. not enough grunt to go any faster). If you re-gear them like mine, then you will become limited by the gearing (you hit redline in 6th before the top speed limit at 186). There is a benefiet to a TRE on a 6er though. The power in the lower gears is reduced through the timing retard that is in the factory ECU. So it makes the transition through the gears more seamless, and gives you more power at part throttle while in the lower gears.

I am not sure whether or not the timing retard exists in the lower gears while at WOT though, it may go away there. Someone else who knows could chime in on that. But I can tell you that with my homemade TRE I get consistently lower 60' times at the drag strip (not crazy lower, but a little lower), but I don't really see any changes at the fast end.

Yes, In the lower gears the timing is automatically retarded (hence the name) to try and keep inexperienced people from dumping their bike. With a TRE you will get full available power as soon as you open the throttle requiring better throttle control by the rider and better acceleration and response. Because the top speed of the 600\750 is limited by drag and horsepower and not electronically a TRE will not increase top speed on these bikes.
