Whats up everybody, I ride a 02' GSXR 600. I'm working on a few projects over the winter since I can't ride

I wanted to change the sprockets so I could pop the bike up a little easier. I'm not sure whether I should go with a -1 in the front or a +2 in the rear, or both? I'm not really worried about top end since I rarely go over 100mph. Also, if I only change one of the sprockets is there really any need to change the chain also? I was looking at a chain & sprocket kit but they cost about $150+ (Vortex), so I may just go with changing one of the sprockets. Any ideas or input would be appreciated.

yo.... I recently did a +2 REAR and 520 conversion on my SIXXER.

I loved and felt the difference immediately.

My kit (bought from Ebay) came with an aluminum +2 rear sprocket, RK 520 chain, and lighter-than-stock steel front sprocket.

Go with that

....I think you'll be happy!

PS: you'll need a speedo healer or yellow box after changing stock number of teeth.

I would skip the 520 conversion, as well as anything aluminum. For the street 520 conversion is worthless, and aluminum is too. other than the fact you'll have to buy a whole new chain and sprockets sooner rather than later. I went +3 in the rear and thought it worked out well for my style of riding. and yes, if you have to change the chain and sprocket as a SET. don't cut corners. unless the chain and sprocket only have 1k miles or so. also, always use a rivet style master link.

i agree with wolph69, only through experience. I did the whole aluminium and eventually ripped teeth of the rear sprocket. it wears a heck of a lot quicker.

but -1 is about the same as 2.6 in the rear I think. I'm not sure, but its more than +2 but less than +3. I did -1 +2 on my 6, and was having an easy time doing 3rd gear at 70ish on the freeway, with one bounce.
