Proper way to use quickshifter

Hello guys, just looking for some thoughts or advice about the proper way to use the the quickshifter feature in our bikes. l mostly ride on town roads so the QS is unnecessary but when l turn it on in open highways or twisty roads l really don't feel the softness of the gears being engaged, in particular when moving from 1st to 2nd gear (sometimes l get neutral, so annoying).

l though the QS mode 1 was too rough so l put it on mode 2. However, l still feel the gear dogs kicking in too hard, l don't feel comfortable thinking I'm stressing the gearbox components too much.

The questions are,

First: Am l kicking the shift lever to soft and that's why l get neutral instead of 2nd? Some Aprilia guys say the manual does not recommend using QS from 1 to 2 and low revs, maybe our gsxr is similar.

Second: Am l doing something wrong or is it normal to feel and hear the gears engagement even with the QS on? l don't want to wear anything. This is my fist bike with quickshifter so l'm an old fashion clutch shifting guy from a 2008 R6.

Third: Do you guys know if using the quickshifter saves clutch or extends the lifespan of the clutch plates?

Thank you all!

I have noticed, espicially at lower revs that holding the throttle at a constant opening makes the switch smoother. I don't use it much riding light to light in traffic. I usually do not use mine from 1st to second, but it seems to work just fine when I do. Also, having a chain that is too loose can make the shifts seem a little harsh. Love the QC, but I don't use it in all scenarios.

The purpose of the QS is to help facilitate High performance shifting. It eliminates the need to roll of the throttle and use the clutch. In a track setting it is invaluable. If you are just cruising around town at low RPM's, then you aren't really getting any benefit by using it. Nor is it designed to be used that way.

I like the one setting kill time a bit longer for street and smoother at lower RPM, I shift after 6K and it's butter for me. the trick is to time your foot with enough pressure to move the shift and quick off the shifter seems the smoothest for me. I also have a 18 RSV4 with a quick shifter and the Suzuki is so smooth the Aprilia feels like an old 90s F1 tranny on a 355 Ferrari or egate on Gallardo. The Suzuki feels like a PDK on a 911 is very impressive.

If you're not in the upper 1/3 of the RPM band and full throttle, don't use the quick shifter. Furthermore, regardless if you're quick shifing or not, when you shift push the shifter all the way through it's travel with authority. You're not asking it to shift, you're telling it.

Thank you guys for your replies, l went for a ride yesterday revving the engine high and driving at higher speeds, definitely the QS works smoother in that way. l also noticed the auto blipper is almost unnoticeable, but l hope it's there working as it should.

I did 320 road miles today in stop&go as well as freeway riding. QS mode 2. Smooth as butter up and down, including 1>2 and 2>1, shifting anywhere from 4k rpm and up.

Being a 2017, I may have skipped over your mileage, but maybe you need an oil change. New oil or better oil could help.

This is the absolute smoothest QS I've ever used... BMW flat twin in my GS, Ducati V4, KTM LC8 twin in the 1290 Super Duke; all "chunkier", more mechanical feeling and sounding
