So last week I had a tiny spill on the bike swerving to avoid some idiot that pulled out infront of me, almost right into me, went to the Dr. the other day and he wanted me to get some X-Rays so I did, turns out I have a broken rib which I expected and I thought I only had a skinned knee, well he calls me today and says I have a partial patellar tendon tear, which caught me off guard because my knee does not even hurt! I'm not sure if this is from the spill I took or if its some injury I incurred while in the Army, possibly when I went through Airborne school. Has anyone else had this kind of injury, is it common with motorcycle accidents. I'm just confused as hell because my knee does not hurt at all expect for the scrapes, now I have to go make an appointment with orthopedics and go from there.

:eek:hmy My brother torn this same tendon...but while skateboarding. sounds like a much worse tear than you have though...his whole chin below his knee can move un-human like 2 inches forward and backward.

Yeah I don't think mine is bad at all, it's not nearly as bad as what you described. I don't even feel any pain in the knee. I have grown very untrusting of Doctors for some reason and think the office just wants to send me another bill that they are going to try to tell me was denied by the insurance company for some obscure reason. I like the illustration by the way lol.

Yea i get bored at work crunching numbers so paint eases my nerves. But if i remember right they cant really do much for you...they just game him a big knee brace and told him to walk it off basically. His was pretty bad too. to the point that he had blood in his knee cap that had to be drained. Its been close to 2 months since his tear but he doesnt wear his brace anymore and can do most things normally. 6-8 month full recovery for him

I hear ya, I'm at work too. gixxer.com makes my day go by quickly lol. I play with paint.net here at work, its free and kinda like photoshop, lots of effects and what not.

back on topic... Well as long as they give me some brace that I don't have to wear all the time and no surgery I'll be fine. I don't want anything thats going to keep me off the bike for an extended period of time. Oh yeah and in addition to gixxer.com and paint being fun at work the Dr. gave me vicodin and percs which also makes work much much better lol!

I remember hearing the same thing a few months back :lmao

He had his brace on for about a week strait because his pain was so bad...his knee looked like he had a softball in it no shit. but after the initial pain and swelling he only wore it 12 hours a day or so. The pain only reacurres now when he does stupid shit. unknowingly kicked a soccer ball the other day to me and just fell over and laid there for a bit

i hurt something around my knee a couple weeks ago. i was training for 4 months for the air force cycle ergometry test (the most dumbest test ever) and i finally hurt myself training too hard. when i put my leg down while on my bike, it hurts on a tendon or something on the inside part of my knee. it goes away after a few minutes. i have been icing it down alot and i have a hard time stopping on my bike at a light when i put my leg down. i think its getting better. it doesnt hurt as much as before. i wonder if it is the same tendon you are talking about. my knee doesnt even hurt either.

Probably a cartilage tear....best bet is to go see sports doctor and then probably get an MRI.

if you can move your shin, you probably have more than just a patellar tendon tear. most likely your acl is shot too.

with todays surgeries, you will be back in action in no time if you go that route. you can also just do some pt to strengthen everything up around it if you don't want the surgery.

8+ months for a ACL repair.

maybe for an old geezer like yourself. i was back in 6 weeks for the acl repair in my left knee. took me 9 months to come back from the right knee surgery though, i had acl, mcl, and pcl replacement, plus a host of other nasty shit.

Patella tendon is a pretty serious injury. Im graduating in 3 months from physcial therapy school and right now i have a patient that had a complete rupture of his petalla tendon. The biggest problem is that it is one of the most important structures when you walk and is attached to most of the quad muscle. If say you let the problem go then it could get bad extremely quick. The guy we have tore his petalla tendon playing basketball, he has about a 5 inch scar acrossed the middle of the knee. I believe he is full wieght bearing finally after 3 weeks on crutches but his knee is still fairly swollen. My advice to you is get it checked out with an MRI and see a surgeon is to where and how big the tear actually is. If the tendon just frayed then it might heal with out surgery. Usually insurance companies are making patients go to physical therapy before they result to surgery to save money.
