Oversize tire and performance???

I have a 2002 600 and my rear tire is a 190/50. Right now I have bigger chiken strips that I would like (1 cm? less than 1/2 inch). It is possible that because the overzise of the tire (It's 180/55 originally) could be hard to go lower???
Thanks for the input in advance

well you have a wider tire, more contact surface...your just not using it to its potential. but curious..why did you go 190 on a 600??? usually the only guys to run 190 are the 1k guys and even when i had my 2002 1k i still prefered a 180 rear.

No a 190 on a 5.5" rim turns in easier, you should have less strips. You are pinching the tire together makeing it "peak" at a greater angle thus losing stability when upright.

just get some pilot powers and call it a day! these things lean in like no other

Tractionless is correct, it will push the edges in on a smaller rim making the profile change.
Best bet is stick to a 180. I raced on 180's with 170bhp for years and had no issues with grip.
British supersport pirelli riders have a 190 option now but some still don't use it!

Funny how some talk of not doing a 190 on a 5.5 rim. I myself switched to a 6" rim for the 190 tire as I wanted to keep the geometry as close to stock as possible.

I was reading the new Sportrider which tests the new Ducati 999R against the Gixxer 1k. The 999R according to the article has a 190 on a 5.5" rim from the factory?!?!
