Engine blown/seized?

Alright, so I've got a 06 GSXR 750 which has about 16k miles on it. Done oil changes about every 1500-2000 miles, new oil filter every other oil change. I ride mostly twisties and just did a trackday a couple of weekends ago, about 3 hours of 9 to 14k RPM on the track. Oil was changed again after the trackday.

Up to this point the bike's been running flawlessly, very happy with it.

Yesterday, I rode to the store, spent a few minutes in there, and came back out and tried to start the bike. The lights come on, tach does it's self adjusting thing, everything looks normal. No FI light, no oil light, nothing unusual. Hit the starter button and uh oh, click click click. I'm thinking dead/weak battery at this point. Fortunately the store had an autoshop nearby so we attempted to jump the battery with a portable jumper. No luck, same as before, click click. I can hear the starter motor trying to engage but it doesn't want to turn over.

Got the bike towed home. Did a voltmeter test on the battery, 12.7 volts. Threw the trickle charger on there just to be sure and it showed the battery was already charged. Hrmmmm.

Towed the bike this morning to the dealer. The tech there tried to turn the motor over by hand on the right side cover. Said it's seized, look for a new motor.

What's next, check for possible hydrolock by pulling the sparkplugs? Or start looking for a motor?

Extra bonus Murphy's Law points in that I have a non-refundable trackday at Miller scheduled for this Sunday. :banghead :banghead :banghead

It doesnt sound like a blown or seized motor to me. Usually that happens under load. Not after a trip to the store and shutting it off. Have you tried getting it rolling in 2nd or higher gear and let out the clutch to see if it will turn over and start? It may be as simple as the stator.

I had a DT200R once that I parked home and everything was fine.
Next day I tried to start it with no luck, piston was stuck, could nto even move the kick starter.
A friend of mine came and told me to put it in 6th gear and then pushed me backwards, then I released the clutch..........believe it or not....everything was fine after that.

I would say take a plug out....you will know if it hydrolocked.

UPDATE:

Ok, got the bike home from the stealership (useless lot they were, at least they charged $0 for their non-assistance) and did a bit of diagnostics.

Just to be sure, I replaced the battery. No change, except the headlight's a lot brighter now. :)

Drained the oil, then propped up the tank and airbox, pulled the plugs, the plug on the #2 cylinder smelled a bit like gas but the rest of em looked/smelled normal. No hydrolock issues as far as I could tell.

With the spark plugs out, I turned the motor over by hand using a 14 mm socket on the end of the crank under the right side cover by the clutch cover. It was very hard to turn over at first, but got progressively easier. After it got easier, I put the bike in first gear to see if the rear wheel would turn while on the Pitbull rear stand. It moved slightly with each turn of the crank. Goooood, at least it seems like it isn't seized and the tranny is still working. :cheers

Soooo....when I hit the starter button, there's a loud clicking/clacking from under the starter idler gear cover on the left side...wonder if those can get misaligned and keep the starter motor from turning????? Or maybe the starter motor is shot? It's usually not that hard to get the starter idler gear cover off the bike, but I tried for at least a half hour to get it off and it wouldn't budge. Hopefully that's the issue, will see tomorrow.

just curious so whats the difference between a siezed and a blown motor? how does checking spark plugs tel you if its siexez and how can you tell? how do you turn the motor over by hand and whats the reason for doin so? Oh and what is hydrolocked?

my search button doesnt work :shifty

Siezed means the moving parts just won't move anymore.

Blown means a part broke inside... ususally resulting in massive damage like the engine was blown up.

Pulling the plugs prevents the engine from compressing and makes it easier to turn by hand.

Turning the engine over by hand lets you feel for problems and check for seizure. It's also turning things very very slowly so you don't cause more damage.

hydrolock. Fluids don't compress (like brake fluid). If coolant or liquid fuel gets into your cylinders, Those cylinders can't compress the fluid and stop.

FIXED! :cheers

OK, so after a lot of hours in the garage I got the motor running again. Turns out the bolt (part #5 below) that holds on the little clamp (part #3) which holds the stator wire inside the stator cover let go and that clamp got wedged between the starter clutch gear and the starter idler gear. So the bike wouldn't start.

I had to cut off the old stator cover cause it was jammed in there so tight. Replaced it with a Woodcraft stator cover (big thanks to Sportbike Track Gear for excellent service) and all is well.
