Anyone have experience with LED Headlights?

**98 SRAD 600**

The right bulb (when in riding position), quit working, or burnt out. I figured I would try a replacement bulb - instead of going back to halogen..

I'm getting conflicting information.

The PIAA website says H4 for low beam, H7 for high beam.
Some forums say H7s, others say H4s for the SRADs.

All I can do is go by the wattage, and "plug configuration".

The wattage for the ones I have found are 12V 60/55W, whereas our manual says 12V 55/50W. Here's the link:
2X H4 120 LED Conversion 12V Headlight Replacement Bulbs Bright White 6000K 3 | eBay

Also I am also concerned about the LEDs functionality - how would an LED work as a hi/lo beam? Halogens have two filaments for this function. If I am correct, which I doubt I am, SRADs should have both lights on all the time, and both lights work as hi beams when switch is engaged?..

Can y'all help me?

Thanks
JG

Stay Away from those multi LED Headlamp bulbs.... They emit nothing for lumens and from what I've seen the Hi/Lo option is backwards or doesn't work... Seriously it a crap shoot.

If you want to swap to LED buy a proper cREE led conversion kit. I run 1 HID and 1 H4 Sylavnia premium bulb on my Concours for the best lighting It works great! Looks nice too. I run 2 High output Cree LED runners on it...

If you want a lighting upgrade run a full on LED Cree kit or HID kit... Those LED "Bulbs" are crap and stay away from them. IF you get caught in the dark with them you won't be able to see anything.

Thank you kindly for the head's up, I knew someone out there has had some experience with them!

I'll look into the conversion or go back to standard halogen

The LED runs on a different voltage so the box there speeds up the current so the LED shine brighter.
That will work see the adapter here:

Those plug mount into where the standard light bulbs mount and then at the end of the converter box is where you plug in the light bulb.

BUlb will sit in your headlight housing just fine (as long as there are H4)

Looks right:

Post pics!!! I really want to do this conversion on my 750W!

Good luck buddy! Just shoot me a line if you need a hand.

@HK45 is one of our resident lighting experts... Maybe he will chime in?

Perfect, thanks guys!

Before I purchase and make the conversion, I see some variations in design of the LEDs. Looks like some are mounted on one side, others two sides, and others still, have a tri mounted light design.

I'm curious if the design is marketing gimmick or if it truly creates a different "stream" of light? Have you guys noticed these different scenarios? Are any of them a worth while venture?

Screw it, I just bought those ones from the eBay link lol

If they don't work how I like, I'll just give them to someone on here and try something else. ETA July 11th. I'll post pics and step by step on here.

Stay tuned

JG.

Here's the unboxing and LEDs hooked up.

I did my best to get before and after. The headlight "lens" I have on my beat up GSXR needs to be replaced - it's not as clear as I would like it to be.

Also I attached a YouTube video showing how loud the fans are - they sound like some brushless motors that are on my RC planes. lol

you uploaded them sideways, your camera has the auto correct feature enabled but unless you re-save them corrected they will look like they are right until you publish them on GDC then they are sideways like you actually took them...

I'm sorry, the bike was junk and not running when I got it, missing bolts, plastic, just about everything.

So when you're referring to "moisture seals", I don't have a clue what you're referring to, but it sounds like I have something else missing, that I need to buy. Hahaha.

When it comes to the construction of the housing, it seems to have only small inlets for dissipation of heat - which also probably induces that higher dB sound from the fan. But because of the smaller holes/plenum, unless water could pour directly into the housing (which is highly unlikely), I don't see much concern from rain. At $40 though, it's not like I'm out a kidney or something.

Just my thoughts.

There should be rubber covers that fit over the back socket and form a seal around the back of the bulb just leaving the connectors exposed. This helps keep the water out and your lights fogging up.

Wow what a difference!
Rain wise it might be an issue if you ride in the rain... I got caught in a T-storm the other night but if it looks like rain I always take the Connie.
Thanks for the post... Going to have to give these a whirl. I like the temperature (color) too!

Yes Sir. They are LED (Cree H4 Kit).

I mentioned and posted a video regarding my concerns for the fans being so loud.

After some adjustment, they are pretty quiet now - can barely hear them..

I'm dealing with an oil leak now, but I'll post another video of them, when I get the time.

I have been running LED's for about a year now, I think they are awesome. I got my set from a local business, super easy to install and no fan(?) noise...they were plug and play. Or at least the low beam was, for the high beam I just had to fashion my own retainer clip since the stock one was too loose.

I will post up a picture when I can get home and install the new replacement for the low beam (although not on a SRAD). The place I bought them from gave me a liftetime warranty, so even though they got new models in they didn't charge me anything for the replacement when one of the diodes burnt to a crisp. Took a year for one of the diodes to go out on one of the bulb assemblies, we will see if the new one lasts longer with the new design and if the high beam continues to work as is.

Even if they go out again in another year, free replacements! And are relatively easy to swap in and out.

What I did was just find out my bulb size and go to Amazon and looked for a LED kit that had a smaller fan as it can be tricky with a bigger fan, especially with the low beam. I had to get a adapter so the LED would stay in place. 17 750- H7 Low beam and H9 for High beam. You don't need to spend big money. Usually the cheaper ones on Amazon that have mostly good reviews are the best. Probably because they are a bit illegal, but who cares. You turn them on even just the high beam people think twice about pulling out in front of you and when you are on the highway in the passing lane and you have that prick that doesn't want to move over, eventually those lights are going to make them say fuck it because its like God's flashlight is what I like to say because they are BRIGHT! This is what I went with and I haven't come across another bike in Florida that has brighter lights.

No flickering. People who do get it is a easy fix.

lol, yup, they are bright, at night almost every car flashes me, don't care cuz I can see REAL WELL, animal eyes like a mile away, reflectors more than a mile away, sometimes you think they are lights but see you are just illuminating sings and reflectors when you get up here.. lol
