96 in 70 zone in Cali, screwed?

Hi all, got my first speeding ticket today.

I was in my cage driving back from Cali to Phoenix and I got pulled over outside of Blythe by a CHP doing 96 in a 70 zone. He just gave me a regular 'infraction' speeding ticket, not a misdemeanor or anything. 22356(B) VC EXCEED 70MPH. He did write '96' in the approximate speed field though.

I went to the CA DMV site and looked it up and it looks like I will not be able to take traffic school for 25+ over. Is that right? I think probably if I went to a court since I have a clean record I could probably get the judge to allow me to take driving school, but that is like 2 hours away.

Just wondering how much I should worry about this... should I just wait to get the ticket in the mail and see if they will allow me to take driving school or not? And is it such a big deal to pay for a ticket? Does it count on my record in AZ?

Thanks... boy do I feel stupid...

That worked for me in Germany. Don't know about the USA, either way it might get back to your insurance company. Is it mandatory court appearance?

No mandatory court appearance, I can either request a court date or handle everything through the mail. I'll find out in a few weeks whether they'll let me take traffic school I guess (I'm thinking not). Anyway, I'm just really nervous about this kind of thing so I just wanted to see if anyone knew what to expect.

get a lawyer and fight it, lol

thats what everybody on this site does, nobody can ever just accept the fact they got caught normally.

I wouldnt worry about it too much bro, id just pay it and see if i could take traffic school in AZ

Be glad you didn't get that over here. 25+ in AZ is criminal speed and they can arrest you, throw you in jail, impound your bike, take away your license, and heavily fine you too. You got lucky that time. Slow the fuck down. CHiP's on the AZ/CA border are the strictest motherfuckers I have ever seen. I didn't see one person going over 70 when I crossed the border the last time I went to L.A.

throw the ticket away..and dont came back to califonia..
Bad advice, here. If you ever get pulled over again, that ticket will show, as will a bench warrent, in all probability. Also, a lot of states share info, so it could very well make it back to your insurance company, even if you pay it.

Good luck.

You should exercise your rights and use the courts. The worst case scenerio is you go to court and the judge makes you pay a fine and does not allow a diversion. That is rare here. Usually they will. Chances are that the judge will lower your ticket (generally by at least 1/3) and that will save you money.

There are some tricks to beat it and people have used this against me, trust me it works.

As a cop, trust me. Use what you find there. It works.

You have 21 days to post bail or show for your date. Call the court, find out if you are eligible for traffic school (18 months w/o an infraction usually). If you qualify, pay the fine, pay the fee, go to school, be done with it. If you don't qualify, pay the fine (in my neck of the pavement, if you appear before a judge and plead innocent and lose, they will not allow you to take traffic school - even if you are eligible). YMMV.

I know that in Texas you must be a Texas resident to even be eligible to take defensive driving to remove a ticket. As far as getting back to your state: probably not. Getting back to your insurance: most definetly.

So I called the court yesterday and they made it seem like I will be eligible to take traffic school (as long as speed is < 100). Hopefully they know what they are talking about.

Thanks for the advice guys.
