Ok so I am new to the forum...so I hope I post this in the right place...

I recently bought an 07 gsxr 600 with 9000 miles from someone off of craigslist. This is my first bike so I am still getting used to riding. However I didnt test drive it when I bought it an now ive noticed that while riding and I go to pick up speed it runs fine butaround 7000 rpms it just basically bogs and doesnt go any higher. So i have been driving myself crazy looking online and asking friends and playing around with it in the garage and im to the point im about to just take it to a shop. I figured I would ask on here as one last option to see if anyone had the same issue. So basically what ive noticed is.....
1)Bike is stock except for a k&n filter ( no PC or anything)
2)No FI light
3) If I run the bike down the road BEFORE the engine is over about 120 degrees it will rev to redline no problem (yes I know thats not good for it)
4) If I ease into the throttle it will go a little higher (around 10k)
5) Revs to redline with clutch in and in neutral
5) Ive put new spark plugs in it (didnt fix it)

Anyways basically in gear, after its warmed up, it wont rev past 7 or 8k

If anybody has had the same issue or any clue where I could start to fix it..any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

Check that the exhaust flapper valve is opening or is fixed open.

Since you just got the bike, you might also pull out the air filter and see if it's not packed solid with dirt and that the inlets are not blocked.

Otherwise, it could be a fuel restriction as Chugs suggests.

i had this problem with an 02 750 and it was cloggoed fuel injectors. I soaked the fuel rail and injectors and blew them out with compressed air. this might not be your problem but yours sounds fuel related

Does the bike top out at 7k in all gears?
What does the bike do when it gets to 7k? (i.e. stops abruptly, just stops accelerating smoothly, slowly creeps up to 7k?)
Does wide open throttle cause it fail earlier then 7k?

Im kind of thinking it may be fuel related too. But to answer rv6johns question... it runs smooth all the way up to around 7k (sometimes it goes past 7k)... once i get around 7 or 8k it basically bogs and feels like its stuck around that rpm....and it does the same thing in every gear. The thing i dont get is when the engine is fairly cold it will rev to redline (usually below about 120 degrees)... once it warms up is when it will not go past around 7 or 8k... i just dont get why it runs fine when the engine is cold ..then once it warms up it starts acting up. I was thinking maybe the coils were breaking down after it gets hot? Who knows....thanks for everyones help please keep the advice coming! Im determined to fix this thing lol....

And ps. as far as wide open throttle the only difference i see is if i go straight to wide open throttle it bogs at 7 or 8k....and if i ease into it it will go to about 10k...

Good explanation. I think you are going in the right direction with a fuel problem. I would discount an ignition/coil problem as it would not be a smooth failure as only one cylinder would go out. The chances of all four coil overs failing repeatably at the same time is not likely.

If it was my bike, I'd do a fuel pressure/flow check as per the service manual. If you have a problem. Pull and check the fuel pump filter.

My guess why the bike runs better when cold is that the ECU is enriching the mixture by cycling the injectors a little longer when cold. If the fuel pressure is low, the longer interval will cover the problem. As the bike warms up, the fuel map no longer enrichens the mixture and the bike leans out.

I had a similar problem not too long ago... My 07' 750 would run fine when it started up, but then once the engine was heated up completely hot it would jerk back and forth and bog every time i hit the throttle around 8k rpm. It was my fuel filter in my fuel pump. I took the tank off and the fuel pump and it was caked with a rusty-looking residue... you can clean it with some compressed air then scrub your tank with some gasoline to get the rest out. After I did that its been running strong for about 8 months now, no sign of the problem anywhere. And btw, when you're not riding you should keep a full tank of gas in your bike to prevent that from happening. hope that helps. :cheers

hey OP. you have a lot of suggestions here, but the easiest thing to start with is a TPS adjustment. here is a step-by-step:

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=273836

download the service manual at www.servicemanualsgsxr.com

check the clutch switch.

i am not dismissing the other suggestions, but since it is your first exposure to the machine, then the simplest things will be easier for you and give you a bit of confidence before you start doing more complicated things.
