I want to change out my headlight assembly. I have read many posts about how to change a bulb, but I need to pull the front fairing off. I've taken off every screw I can find but still something is holding it on.

Can someone give me a step-by-step on removing the front fairing? I have checked the owner's manual and the service manual, and all I can find is "remove the fairing". Like it's just that simple. Any help? Thanks.

There's 2 bolts by the steering head that must come out, did you remove them? You have to kind of peek inside there, you can see them. The long way is to remove the gauge cluster then you will see the bolts.

I got the two bolts by the steering head. The fairing wiggles around, but there is something in there still holding it. The diagram showing a few screws on ronayers.com wasn't any help, sorry.

Do you have all the plugs pulled apart? It's been awhile since I pulled mine off. I think there is also 2 small bolts that go into the bottom of the lower triple & hold a plastic shield? I don't remember there being anything else other than the wiring plugs. If you still have the gauges in I think you have to pop the rubber tits in the corners loose also.

The service manual seems to provide a fair amount of detail. See 8-5 to 8-7. I think that OF may be referring to the lower bracket cover, which is the first thing described. I also see that there are hidden side cowling fasteners that are shown on the second picture on 8-6. It sounds like you might be trying to not remove the side & under cowlings, which won't work. I'd even remove the cluster. Watch out for the steering damper connector as it's fragile.

I didn't even think to add that all the surrounding plastics needed to be off already. I was assuming that was done already, but maybe not. The lower bracket cover is what I was referring to. My memory REALLY SUCKS since they did my brain tumor operation. :hammer I've had the nose off so many times yet I was struggling to remember the steps. :banghead

I've shifted my gaze to the steering damper wire. You say it's fragile, so I'm trying to be gentle, but I've pushed, pulled, twisted, looked for little secret locks, and it doesn't move. These bikes, like all others, are made to be taken to the dealer for the slightest little thing it seems. I've tried a Google search and the advice seems to be "remove the wire".

Here's a pic of half the plug pulled apart, there is a tooth in the middle holding a tab. You may need to use a small screw driver to gently help get the tab up.
