Im curious to know what everybody does to clean there chain and the surrounding area of the bike. I have to cross one dirt driveway to get to work and it gets messy. I usually use a spray can of chain clean, but... that stuff gets expensive since i have 2 bikes to maintain.

I just put mine on the rear stand and spray WD40 on a rag and wipe it down really good. Then ride around the streets to heat up the chain, back on the rear stand and spray it down with chain wax or whatever product I have at the time. It's all about the same, opinions will be like assholes on this, everyone will have one. Hope this helps.

there' been lots of discussion on using wd40 - pros and cons. some swear by it.

me, i use kerosene to clean. then lube it with chain wax. i don't clean my chain often enough. but when i lube it, i wipe off the excess. if i can find the hair dyer, i'll run it quick to soften/melt the wax. else, i'll ride it and reapply later when the chain is warm. why be anal... chains are expensive, so i avoid riding it w/o any kind of lube. cuz with chain changes, comes sprocket changes too.

grunge brush, and some wd40, then put a nice coat of bel ray lube on it..........done about every 500 miles or so

WD-40 and Bel Ray here too......

well I don't recommend it

but it seems that with the last 3 bikes ( one only for 4 months)

I only lubed it with chain wax maybe months between. But I'd change my whole set up right around 7k-8k

Not advice by any means, just a bad habit
