I swap a engine from a 2000 gsxr 600 to 1998 gsxr 600 2 days ago and I connected with all the conectors, put new fluids, new air k&n Filter, new clutch, new chain and sprockets. Now the Gauge Cluster dont show the the odometer, the signal lights dont work the neutral light dont comes on, but the gauges light up. Also the engine is trying to turn but it dont turn on,:banghead. Then when it trying to turn on, it back fire. I am trying to search and checking what could be the problem. :crying

Any help or Ideas... :scratch

I am trying to verify if have spark, but I am not sure how to test it, I know the fuel pump is priming, I don't have no signal lights, no horn, no read in the speedometer, I check the new sparks, but I don't how to test if is having spark, I pull one out and left it in the cable and turn the ignition and you hear like something electricity running but that it. I hope is something I can fix it, cuz I really don't know what could be, I check fuses, check conectors.

what all got swapped over?

are you using the 98 starter or?

seems to me if its a straight swap nothing would have changed electrically other than the starter cable connection and the stator, neutral sensor..

any way you can take all that out of the 98 and put it in the 2000?

that way everything is the same

guess I should ask first was the bike up and running before you did the swap or?

you have to fill in the blanks

Are you using the correct ECU/CDi box I heard somewhere they are not interchangeable. Its to do with ignition timing.

Yeah, 98 engine came off from a bike running, all I did is just bolt on an plug all connectors, I change the neutral sensor too. But now that you mention do I have to put the startor of the 2000 engine that I took off and put it in the 98 engine? Also the ECU/CDi I am using the same one that engine 2000 is using. Since I thought the are the same engine.

I'd fix electrical issues with the cluster/etc first and then proceed troubleshooting why engine backfires. Probably you messed up with connectors. Check that all connectors are plugged into correct sockets (pay attention at TPS/SPTS, crankshaft & camshaft position sensors)

98 had dual coils, where 2000 had stick coils right? Which set of ignition coils are you using, and are you sure they are in the right order?

Re: Re: Swap a engine and dont start

That's good question, I am just using the ones that the 2000 engine was using, those one are the one the I'm plugging to the 98 Engine, I tought I can use the same ones.
Yes as long as the harness has the wiring for them or whatever. But be sure they are in the right order. It is easy to swap them around on some models.

Ok, So I don't need the 1998 coils? All the plugs and conectors are all conected. But idk what is causing that she don't turn on.
No. I asked solely because the dual coils of the 98 are really easy to get wrong. The 2000 you can get wring too though. Usually either 1/2 or 3/4 get swapped on accident.

My 98 600 is stick coils. Thought it was only the 750 that twin coils packs to 98

Could have been. It has been a damn long time since I've screwed with one lol.

Are they fresh plugs? Have you got a multimeter?
