Hey guys,

Will a 190 fit on my 08 600 wheels with no modifications? Thanks in advance for your response.

Chris.

Thank you for your reply, I was just curious, a Soldier of mine told me to try it out. But now I know better.

Not trying to be mean, most people think that a 190 tire will give them more room to lean the bike over, but it will also raise the back of the bike up and do other things to the bike, but to answer your questions yes the tire should and would fit. When i got my 750 it had a 190 tire on it.

Did he tell you why to do it, or was he like giving you orders and stuff?

:D
He said it looks better, I'll be damned if I let a Private give me orders, he'd be doing push ups till "I" get tired.

You should have said "I think you mopping up the head looks better", followed quickly by "don't ever try to give me advice that has anything to do with motorcycling ever again"........

Which incidentally is the same response you should give anyone if their reason for telling you to do something to your sportbike is "it looks better".

Yes, the 190 will fit, but do not get a 190/50. Go with a 190/55 and you will be happy.

Methinks the private is not suggesting to run 190/55 race tires on his and his staff sergeant's street bikes because it "looks better"

:D

Yes but why would you want to go to the 190. they have done so much testing on this and the 180 is the best tire for that bike
So if your assumption is right and Suzuki did such a good job, why does everyone who races an 06-10 has to change just about everything to get the geometry right on those models?:dissapointed

And listen to who? you?? :shifty the guy who is running a 190 on his 600. I am just as guilty so I would never tell someone not to run a 190 on a 600.

Didnt you have a 200 on the 1K at one point too?:scratch:p

Lot's of misinformation here.

Many racers run a 190/55 on a 5.5 rim. In fact some race rubber does not come in 180.

There are advantages and disadvantages to running a 190.

Setup is the key not tire size.
:stupid

Yes and yes......well almost, it's a 195/65 :D

Point I was making is I'm thinking the private was suggesting to his sergeant that a fat one in the rear "looks better" and that's why he should do it to impress the curb monkeys

Not because a 190/55 race tire is better performer on the racetrack. Unless I'm completely off base here (which I don't think I am :D ). And as I mentioned before, the wideness of a tire is dictated more by the width of the rim not the number on the sidewall of the tire.......i.e. 190/55 in middle on 5.5 rim, 190/50 on right on 6.0 rim. I would say the 190/50 looks "wider" here yeah?

"Bigger" tires are typically bigger in height, not width......which isn't usually the visual effect that squids are going for

190/55 background........190/50 foreground

You are not off base and there are a bunch of variables that come into play, when switching tire and rim sizes around. Some effects are more noticeable than others, and some people will argue the point, but a 190/55 on a 5.5" rim will be taller than a than a 190 on a 6" rim. Maybe not much, or not noticeable, but there will be a difference.

Theoretically, a 190/55 and a 190/50 would be the same width, of course between manufacturers and even different models, there will be variation.

Edit:

The 190 is the width, 190mm section width, the 50 or 55 is the aspect ratio, its the height of the sidewall, a percentage of the width, so for arguments sake: a 100/50-17 will be 10mm shorter than a 100/55-17.

100mm section width(not tire width)
aspect ratio of 50 would be a 50mm tall sidewall
aspect ratio of 55 would be a 55mm tall sidewall
17 inch rim

Another easy example:
255/50-16 tire would measure around 26" tall

25.4mm = 1"
255mm = 10" (aprox)
50% of 255mm = 5"((aprox)x2, 1 for top and 1 bottom)
16 inch rim.

the 50 serves no purpose anymore, and is basically an obsolete tire size. the 55 is better in almost every way, allowing quicker turn in and a bigger contact patch at full lean, save for a tiny bit of added weight.
