Hi went for a ride my 1991 GSXR750W yesterday all was good untill 20min in and i started to lose all power and the engine sounded like a tracktor. So i pulled over had half a tank of fuel.So i coasted home dropped the fuel out and checked spark plugs n cords all good put new fuel in and now it will only start when choke is on all the way.Can somebody help me???
Cheers

:scratchOk start with checking hed gasket 4 leaks,it can b so many things, but now ive started this,u will get a lot of good help from the Gixxer Gods, dont stress, its nothing $$ wont fix, good luck. Cheers Peter :cheersRTE38:burnout

what's it run like ?

Let it run a while with the choke on then push the choke back off. Also did you switch over to reserve on your petcock?? These things WILL NOT run on the "ON" position past half tank.

its a 91 so theres no way its watercooled eric. 92 MAYBE but not 91. I think he has his model confused.

honestly think he just needs to turn the petcock over to reserve. it sounds IDENTICAL to when I ran mine to ~1/2 tank in the "ON" position.

Checked all the gaskets have a small leak behind the chain gaurd near the gears.
Also done what you said with the choke still no good.
Filled the tank up still no good and checked if it was on and tried it again in reserve that didnt work.
Was told it mite be timing chain? so rang to book it in cant fit me in for a month.
This is my first road bike and dont know a great deal about them so thanks for all the help.

Can you elaborate on "running like a tractor"

Im guessing you mean underpowered, wont rev out?
or is it making a "Chuffing" type sound? (would indicate a blown head gasket)

Timing chain if its really worn, can jump a tooth on one of the camshafts.
This causes the camshaft to open the valves at the wrong time, sometimes needing full choke to run.(will run like its lost most of its power)

I recommend that you check the cam timing before trying to start/run this bike again, as serious engine damage may result if it is a badly stretched chain and it jumps another tooth.

Was there any unusual sounds when this happened?
Is your bike serviced regularly?

Your problem is the grips, if you continue to run them without flushmounts your bike will turn green and yellow, your mom will call telling you your cat died and there will be no ice cream for the kids at "the home"...
