Considering getting a busa. Which year/model offers the best value/performance ratio?

Are any years easier to add Horse Power to than others?

If your looking at a Gen1('99-'07)then Id say stick to '02&up since they have a few updates the '99-'01 model doesn't(clutch,ECU,starter etc)

If your looking at a Gen2('08-'11)then get the color combo you like best as their all the same except for colors/graphics.

The Gen1 busas generally put down 160rwhp in stock trim,Gen2 models roughly 20rwhp.

I have a 2000 Busa which I bought new&recently purchased a new Gen2 as well.I like them both equally with the nod going for the Gen2 as its a bit refined over my '00.

Horsepower is a crap shoot, they are both capable of making ridiculous amounts of power so it depends which route u want to take to get there.

Personally,I would find a low mileage '06/'07 and do a nice RCC Stage2 turbo build:cheers

You can find anything for your budget..I had the budget to get a Gen 2 but I much prefer the looks of the Gen 1..

As for power, from what i hear the Gen 1's are easier and more reliable to get more HP from but I dont know that from expierence, im happy with my stock 99.

The big issue with the 99-00 models was the cam chain tensioner recall, just check and see if its been done with Suzuki, I cant imagine you'll come across one that hasnt.

Ive had 2 Busas, 1 a 2000 model and my most recent an original 99.IMHO id go for an original and enjoy the bike and the saving..

+1000 i just picked up a 09 gen 2 white silver and love it..

The 02 - 07 busa has all the refinements, and is tuneable with relative ease upto 600bhp, the gen 2 bikes although more powerful out of the crate need more care when tuning, with regard to the "titanium" valves, tht most tuners seem to swap at the first available opportunity.

If you get a Gen 1, get at least an '03. The '02's still had starter issues so if you get one, make sure the starter has been replaced.

The '04 purple and black is just downright tasty, though.... :)

Once in a great while I hear of a leftover new '07 in a showroom somewhere so if you see one, that might be a sweet deal.....

Gen 2 is really the way to go, though, if you have the budget for it.

That said, though, the Gen 1's are a bit easier to work on if you do your own wrenching.

Let us know what you decide to do!

Ok, I just bought my first Hayabusa, an 08 (because it's mid winter, I haven't had a chance to ride it yet). While I completely understand wanting to increase HP for a drag bike, perhaps even a track bike (Hayabusa track bike?), I just don't get the need to try and build one of these bikes into something more dangerous than it already is. Quite frankly, this bike stock, scares the living shit out of me!! Can someone please explain this to me (I'm not trying to be an ass, I just really want to know)?

:cheers

Ehh,just depends on your riding experience/level I guess. Even though they are plenty fast stock& the vast majority of owners will leave them that way my new/stock Gen2 felt painfully slow when I brought it home. I put a few miles on it,took it to the dragstrip to make a few baseline runs and then at 220mi on the odometer I decided I needed more power since this was going to be my everyday streetbike. So I did some engine work&got a few more HP out of it:cheers

But then again,I cant leave anything stock:biggrin

Plenty fast for me out of the box. I never had a need to make it more powerful either and never had any embarrassment about it when someone asks me why I don't put a turbo on it or some other similar shit.

Like what the hell do *I* need a turbo for? :D

wag is a hayabusa king. every video you see on youtube is a special montage to him and his busa made by others. there will be no busa above Wag's.

Are you kidding? I have a Busa because I needed something to haul my fat ass around at something just a little over the speed limit and the Busa is the only thing with the juice to do it!

:lmao

speaking about hayabusa's, i was doing a search and came across this thread. someone considered a hayabusa as a beginner bike:

SOunds like an idiot. MY first bike was a 89 gsxr 1100 but that wasn't my fault only one in the garage haha. ( Was Dad's Bike ). But i have years of Dirt bike racing under my belt so i'd know atleast basics of it. going from 500cc 2 stroke to this 1100. I see why people don't get any higher than 750 a lot of times!
