Most shops have sliders that are bike and year specific, to minimize on alterations, drilling of fairings, or cutting of the sliders themselves...

As stated, I have an 00' 750, and I got Lockhart & Phillips sliders that came with an adapter for the left side (or was it the right) of the bike, so that I wouldn't have to do anything but screw them in (although the left side fairing did require taking off in order to put on the left slider, the right was a breeze)..

If you're buying an 05 from the stealership, you might as well spring for some OEM Sliders also... Another $70-$100 isn't gonna hurt the 7K-8K you're already planning to spend...

While you're there, see if you can get a deal on a smoked windscreen, and one of those Suzuki Replica Leather Race Team jackets... they retail for like $499 in stores, but i'm sure with a new bike purchase, if your mouthpiece is good, you can possibly talk them down to $300-$350 to throw it in the package... Those bitches are schweet!!!

Too bad, I haven't been able to find one in a size 54!

OEM frame sliders have been known to shatter even on just a drop. Don't get the OEM sliders.-I have the diamond power sports (just the regular frame sliders) they work extremely well-never had a problem and hold up under severe drops. The FLAME sliders just have led lights for extra, but are equally rugged.

VORTEX. No cutting required.

. I don't expect them to hold up well in a crash, I bought them more in case of a tip-over or small fall.

ok this might be a stupid question. what exactly are frame sliders? i had a bike for awhile and i know how to ride but i am really new to the whole bike world.
They are attachments that you screw onto the frame, normally on one of the engine mounts, sticking out further than the fairing. In the event of a crash, the bike slides on the slider instead of the fairing and engine covers. They normally don't protect the bike fully, but they help a lot. Here's a pic of my track bike after a 30mph crash in a tight hairpin last year - notice how little damage there really is - didn't even bend any levers

The frame slider is the round, white nylon piece sticking out through the upper fairing hole (after the crash I rotated it half a turn for further use, that's why the rash is at the upper part of it).:

To the original poster - if you want the best protection, get some that attach directly to the frame, not with a bracket. You'll probably have to cut the fairing a bit (not the same on the different models) but you won't have the weak spot that the bracket is. I have seen bracket-type sliders ripping the bracket, actually doing more damage than the crash itself would have. Besides, a cleanly cut and touched-up hole in the fairing is pretty unnoticable.

Also get plastic sliders, either made of nylon or Delron (a special type of nylon that slides particularly well). Metal sliders are crap, don't dampen the impact at all, often bends the mount and has the tendency to snag onto things, making the damage worse...

yeah i figured thats what it was, just didnt want to make an ass out of myself. thanks for the answer.
don't worry, we don't expect everyone to know the lingo. If you aren't sure what it is, it is best to ask us than to try to know you know what we are talking about. That way, we could help you with things you aren't familiar with.
