So something John (GSXR-Freak) said the other day about a recall, back in the day, made me remember all the SRAD 750's we recalled back in 96-97. I called a longtime friend who owns several dealerships, he ran my VIN and engine number, and my bike comes back as one that was involved in the recall campaign, but never went to the dealer for repairs. This recall was for piston/head clearance issues and if I remember right was solved by a thicker head gasket.
That being said, I have owned this bike for 10 months, have ridden maybe 300 miles on it. I has 15k miles on it and is now my trackbike, but came to me well taken care of with hardly a scratch on it.....so I don't know its history.
The recall, according to the service manager says that affected bikes should not be revved over 5,000 RPM!!! I am sure that is conservative though.
My options are these:
1) don't do anything....heck its made it this far
2) drive 6 hours back to that dealership and let people I used to work with do the work (probably put new rings in and freshen things up at the same time)
3) let the local dealership (they sell BBQ grills and Ginsu knives, and told me once that they don't balance tires when installing because you just line up the mark on the tire with the valve stem....presto) do it.
4) Buy the parts, at my own expense, and do the work myself.
Keep in mind that there is no statute of limitations on a safety recall, whether any warranty is in place or not.
