So something John (GSXR-Freak) said the other day about a recall, back in the day, made me remember all the SRAD 750's we recalled back in 96-97. I called a longtime friend who owns several dealerships, he ran my VIN and engine number, and my bike comes back as one that was involved in the recall campaign, but never went to the dealer for repairs. This recall was for piston/head clearance issues and if I remember right was solved by a thicker head gasket.
That being said, I have owned this bike for 10 months, have ridden maybe 300 miles on it. I has 15k miles on it and is now my trackbike, but came to me well taken care of with hardly a scratch on it.....so I don't know its history.
The recall, according to the service manager says that affected bikes should not be revved over 5,000 RPM!!! I am sure that is conservative though.
My options are these:
1) don't do anything....heck its made it this far
2) drive 6 hours back to that dealership and let people I used to work with do the work (probably put new rings in and freshen things up at the same time)
3) let the local dealership (they sell BBQ grills and Ginsu knives, and told me once that they don't balance tires when installing because you just line up the mark on the tire with the valve stem....presto) do it.
4) Buy the parts, at my own expense, and do the work myself.
Keep in mind that there is no statute of limitations on a safety recall, whether any warranty is in place or not.

uh obviously I would get it fixed lol...don't want to end up like my thread.

however, since it is your track bike and obviously been revved over 5k rpms - perhaps the gasket issue has already been handled....?

and yes...5k is very conservative. Mine blew at double digit rpms after a week of riding and some spirited rides.

many dealerships still do that actually as manufactures did suggest that at one time.
So, does that mean you would go with that? How many tires do you think I installed in 7 years at a dealership that still needed balancing despite that mark? Almost all! Ever had your bike go into a tankslapper on the track because your balance weights came off? Which dealership would you let work on your bike......I bet that I know the answer to that.:twitch

I would have the update installed. The shop will be paid for the labor and you can slap rings in it for cheap.

I agree with it being a good opportunity to freshen things up internally, but also be aware that a lot has to come off and sometimes it make feel quite a bit different when fixed . Whether that's good or bad.... Taking appart 13-14 year old parts is always risky, at least have the dealership do it so when something does break it's on their dime

is there a website that describes the recall, including the database of VIN#s which are affected? i've never heard of this recall, but i do have a 97 750 and now im kinda scared... i dont want my motor to go boom.

no website, give me your vin and engine # and I will tell you if your bike was affected.

The CCT recall was on the 99 model, I am not sure they ever recalled the bikes before that.
