I was talking to this guy over the weekend who works at a dealership. I told him that I was looking into getting a PCIII and through on a map for my exhaust. He said instead of getting the PCIII, he could use the dealership's Yoshi Box to adjust the motorcycle's computer system and it's stored in the hard drive. He stated that the dealership would charge me $80, but he'll do it for $40.

I just want to adjust the map because of my slip-on exhaust (cut off the CAT) and I might change the air filter too.

First, what is this Yoshi Box that he's talking about?
Second, should I continue with my plan of getting the PCIII with a download map or should I go with the Yoshi Box way?

i wanna see what this is all about too...

well if you trust them to do a damn good tune on their dyno then go for it, but for that price i would highly question it. It takes time to get a good tune and even more time doing it that way then with a piggyback unit like hte pc3. then if you ever need anything done again you have to go back to them as you can't adjust it yourself. For that price i doubt they will put it on a dyno and tune it. w/o that doing that i would question what they are going to do. just my .02

Yosh box plugs in to the dealer mode connector and changes can be made to the fuel map internally on the ECU. Only difference is, it's a permanent change that can't be adjusted unless hooked up to the Yosh Box again. If you're not actually getting a dyno tune with the yosh box, I'd be a little weary of letting someone make blind adjustments with it, and would go the PCIII route.

He said he don't have to hook it up to a dyno, just hook up the Yoski Box, adjust + or - 5 or 10, and he's done.

that's pretty much what he said.

yeah, I don't want to short cut with something that serious.

so he's going to guess on what your bike needs for a tune? I would recommend a pc3 with a downloaded map as at least then you know you're getting a good tune and very close to what you need. As far as i'm aware there are not a lot of maps out there to tune the stock ecu and even if there is you would have to take their word for it that it's done as you can't plug it into your computer and check it.

If he was going to put it on the dyno then i would say go for it IF he's a reliable tuner with a great rep. barring that i would stick to the known dynojet maps as they are pretty good and known to work and you know exactly what you're getting.

BTW you may want to look at the pcv compared to the pc3. newer, more up to date product so it will hold its' value better. Also more add on upgrades available to purchase separately should you want to do that in the future. Also a smaller unit and more tuning values. for the small extra cost over the pc3 I would recommend that. For the resale value and addon products if nothing else (you never know what the future holds). Only about a 10 dollar difference. It also doesn't require a 9v battery to program it as it's powered by the usb cord. Just my .02

Ok, the PCV it is! ... once I get the money.

I ride a 1000 K4 and I had my bike tuned with a Yosh box by a guy that knew what he was doing and this bike fucks off. I ran plenty of guys with later models and lots of high tech shit.
A Yosh box works great if the person working it is good. It'll also be advisable to have a full service done o n your bike before doing the Yosh...
