Someone else brought up a good point. Do you keep gloves in the helmet? Does it stay wet for long periods (stored in such a way it cant dry properly after use)?

Good point. Any chemicals, even cleaners, can break down liners, especially oils and gas that might be on gloves, among other things like basic road grime. It would not take much to destroy a liner if someone was storing their gloves inside of the helmet.

For curiosities sake, Id like to see links to the 3 other forums that have riders claiming to have the same issue though. You said four forums in the video, and this does not appear to be one of them that has riders with the same issue.

I stand by my thought that something happened, more than likely NOT shoeis fault, to cause what you are seeing. It is just way too abnormal. Assuming all their helmets are made the exact same way, basically on an assembly line........ one would think an issue in materials would have shown at the very least across an entire lot of helmets. Not just one, or a handfull. I can see something that could have been fucked up in the assembly, like say a sheild mount coming loose or something, being an isolated or rare incident that the manu is at fault. But a complete failure of materials, in one..... or VERY VERY few of the helmets.

Something is amis here. Not blaming you directly. But something I think outside of shoeis fault has happened.

BUT WITH THAT SAID>...........

....... the way the distributor has acted is out of line, regardless of how you feel about what happened to your helmet.

Even mold/mildew etc can cause drastic changes and failure of materials.

I have had a pair of gloves that were not dried properly, completely fail when I went to put them back on. High end gloves. They were put up wet, in a sealed rubbermaid box. You could clearly see that the salts and sweat that sat on them for however long had caused the leather to fail, with what also appeared to be a form of mold/mildew. . And I have heard of others having it happen as well. It was not a fuzzy mold or mildew of any sort like you would see growing. But the leather had changed. It was dry, and brittle, and had what appeared to be a light dusty mold along with the salts from the sweat.

And thanks for the links in advance. I spend too much damn time on the internet (job gives me too much free time :lol) and have never seen it before. Considering we have one of the largest bike related forums on the web here, it seems if it was in the least bit common, I would have........ so it is intriguing to me :dunno.

Well Result is - Shoei have just gone above and beyond in my opinion. Not sure what swayed them but they have offered me a new helmet. An older stock helmet, run out model - but still, given the circusmtances - pretty amazing...

I've told them i'll edit what i can on the forums that i posted on which were bikechatforums http://www.bikechatforums.com, boostcruising http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/ and cbrforum http://cbrforum.com/forum/. If you read thru some of the bike chat replies, several ppl reckoned they had same or like issues.

Thanks to those that supported me thru this debacle, i feel a little bit spoilt and guilty but in the end i think their decision was not really related to the helmet, but too the way it was all handled...anyways - i'll start editing...

Cheers
Si.
