Hi folks! Greetings from Norway!

I've had my new gixxer 1k for two months now, and have ridden it for 7500 km's/4700 miles.

All in all it's a lovely bike with a lot of grunt, and very good handling...Exactly what one can expect from a new literbike.

On the other hand, I've had some issues with it, and I wonder if any of you here on the forum have made similar experiences:

The paint job on the bike is very poor, in that I already after 4 weeks use had worn through the paint were the knees touch the fairing/plastic right under the tank. The tank itself is full of "faded stripes", and also the tail has faded scratches. (I have a tank pad, the stripes are on the side of the tank)

The brakes are "yanking" almost pulsing at low speeds. They are also making a kind of deep sound, almost as if a train is braking. It might be the disk that isn't perfectly "straight" or aligned (don't mind my poor english...) or that the caliper/disc isn't floating correctly.

I've been in contact with at least 4 other guys with the same bike, and the paintjob is a reoccuring issue...

I've been in contact with the dealer, who will help me after the complaint I sent the importer is read/validated.

These issues, however are not what I expectet after purchasing a new literbike that in Norway has a retailprice of 38600 $....

experiences anyone?

I haven't had any of those problems on my k9, I wonder if the warranty will cover the fading paint job since it is so new..
I would assume so too. And for the brakes, I will demand a warranty change...
This is a racing bike that you can use on public roads, and the brakes ( as on all vehicles) is one of the most vital parts...

I know...actual price is 18000 USD. The rest, 21000 USD is actually taxes to the Norwegian state...amongst them taxes on poweroutput...
That's the Norwegian system. If you want a powerful bike, the state wants "a piece of the action", or should I say my action. Nothing we can do about it...

the paint job on my k9 seems fine. in fact it looks a lot better than my k7 600 did. the fairings feel no less flimsy than my 600. but i really cant make a justified comparison b/c ive never owned a gsxr 1000 so.....

but wow 40k for a bike is insane. id have trouble spending that on a car much less a bike

Well...Another example; The cheapest Ford Focus 4 door/sedan (1.6 TDCi 90hp ) is about the same price...39000 USD....Just as a price comparison...

By the way; I got 7800 Usd for my old 95 Suzuki RF 600 R, with 80000 KM/50000 miles on it...

Norway is one of the best countries in the world to live in....But it comes at a price...

Keep me posted on the paint on your bike...Maybe they sent a bad batch of bikes to Norway...Who knows...

the plastic is thinner on the k9 when compared to my k2. Again race bike not street bike. Also the paint is thinner then the 02 too. Weight savings. I agree with most over the years. Put more pigment and clear on the bike I dont mind the few extra pounds for a paint job that should last. It was the same for the 03-04 model. Complains about the paint being thin and coming off the bike!

I saw it at a bike show.. and also had read that the bodywork is very thin (flimsy). Is Suzuki trying to save money on paint and bodywork?

not money.....weight.

same with paint, they usually go pretty light on the coats as well.

I have had my k9 (blue/white) for a month / 1500 km and I'm also wearing well into the paint on the plastic strip under the tank and I've noticed some wear on the frame immediately below. :sad

I also have an annoying clunk when the forks extend to max at slow speeds. The sound emanates from the guard acting as a sound board. Forks have been stripped and rebuilt but the noise remains. Anyone else have this one?

I haven't any issues with the brakes (other than as supplied the front brake line pulled tight on the guard when the fork extended, adding to the clunk - I adjusted the guide on the lower triple clamp and resolved this).

I agree, such issues are not really acceptable on a modern well designed motorcycle. Maybe Suzuki will deal with these issues if they receive collective pressure from customers. :hammer

Another KNine owner here - agree with comments paint wears prematurely on back of tank and plastic side panels under tank - put a carbon fibre paint protector on tank should fix the problem - performance wise though the bike is superb - handling - brakes - clutch - tranny -ergos - power better than all my previous Gix1's including the K8 - bit a buzz to the motor but not annoying.
I think BMW has raised the bar with their new S1000RR (aluminum tank - 5lb abs and traction control - and BMW build quality with +10RWHP on the Japanese) which will force the Japanese to up their game - Lexus/Acura/Infiniti was the response on the car side - count on the Empire striking back.

I can't believe the paint is wearing so pre-maturely.

I wonder if it has anything to do with what you wear? Full leathers or just jeans?

My K8-750 has over 8k Miles and not even a hint of wear, looks like it came off the show room floor. And I drive the piss out of it wet or dry.

I was unlucky , and dropped my bike , and it's easy to see how thin the paintwork is.
I will repaint both lower fairings , probably the rest of the bike as well (when at it) . Here's a piccie of the damage

Sad that you dropped the bike. Hope you find a good painter.
I don't mean to high-jack your thread, but as it comes to paint i saw my chance to see what you all think?
I wonder why Suzuki has been doing the paint schemes so freaky.
I figured the black bike would have black rims, or atleast the silver painted plastics cold be in the same colour as the rims. They use too much variables to the lines of fairings, and to much colours to keep the looks as nice as it could. The all white bike, silver at the side plastics and gold rims. It would be better if they were matched, and why gold rims. As it seems, the most logical and well sorted bike is the blue/white. If i were to buy a black i instantly would like the rims black and the side plastics, or paint the side plastics same colour as the rims. Same white the burgundy and black, why so much lines and colours. The K7/K8 had better looks. I also wonder why they didn't anodise the alu parts (levers and rearset/brackets for travellers footpegs and pegs). They could have asked a few more $/€ for that.
