so, everyone give me your opinions on what I should look for when I go to fix this bike... I already have my ideas. All I know so far is the bike does not idle well, and will stall at idle if you don't give it some gas. The idle speed supposedly is set correctly (but I will be checking that first). Once it is off idle it runs great, it will just "run poorly" and then stall at idle.

So far I am thinking idle speed (even though the owner says it is right, I am going to check it anyway). Spark plugs, idle mixture on the carbs.

The bike is a 1996 Kawi ZX9R. It spent alot of it's life in Hawaii with the salt air, so it could probably use a good carb cleaning and rebuild and that would probably fix it too... But if I can just get it idling for now he will be happy while we track down everything needed to rebuild them.

Also going to check things like the choke cable play and such, I am going to do all of the maintenance it needs and see if that resolves the problem... if not, then I will start looking at actual carb problems.

carbs are fun..... make sure there are no vaccuum leaks.
that's true too.

The bike went into storage for about 2 years, when it came out of storage, it wouldn't idle. I don't know what all he did to prep it for storage, so it could just be that the carbs need a good cleaning... I am going to try some carb cleaner spray that I have and see if I can't clean it out a little with that... and if that improves it at all, then I will take them off and give them a full clean with new gaskets and seals. Hell, I should probably jsut rebuild them anyway... 12 year old bike that sat for 2 years.... then for another 10 months in his garage after... I am sure they need it.

the carbs most likely just need a good cleaning if it sat that long without being run.

THAT IS WHAT I (damn caps lock) am thinking... I have some carb cleaner that is in a spray thing, it is made to be sprayed down the carbs while it is running, and you can pull a vacuum line and spray it in there also.

If I do that and it improves, then I will probably just rip them off, tear them down, and give them a bath in some carb soak, then do a rebuild with new gaskets and rubbers...
