With the many choices of liter bikes how come i rarely ever hear anything about the Aprilia RSV1000? Has anyone heard of good things come from this brand? Although i am a Suzuki kind of guy by heart i am always open to other makes and models. Plus the Suzuki is the only other bike i can ride comfortably even being only 5'4" -5'5" with a short inseam. I have noticed the new RSV is the same seat height as the Suzuki being 31.9, the only other choice after my 600 is the 848 Ducati which is at 32.6 iirc. But the Aprilia would still be my first choice only because i rarely see them on the streets.

I have riden my brother-in-laws. It is a great bike for cornering. Power wise it feels a lot under powered. I dont know if they have made a chnages to the 08-09 model but the 07 I rode felt like it had 600 power. It handles great like I said but for the money and it being a 1000 it should have more power.

I have only good things to say about Aprilia RSV 1000 R.
Had one before my K5, and it had 55000 Km on the clock with out any trouble. It won the masterbike shootout in Europe in 2006 against all other bikes. 141 Hp to 180 Kg dry weight, and hits 280 Km/h.

I'd love to own the Factory model which comes with full Öhlins set-up, Brembo brakes and OZ forged wheels. It's a 65° V-2 so it's a bit more better rev'in than the lazy rev'in 90° RC51's or KTM's but you're never gonna get that same kind of exciment out of a V2 you get from an I4 engine. It has 143 bhp which is not much these days. I rode the KTM RC8 yesterday which has ca. 155bhp and that felt slow too. Great suspension, though...

I've heard that there has been some problems with the rear brakes. Can't remember what excatly. And for the Italian bikes typical issues with electronics.

That was my other option when I was looking for my current bike. Ended up with the GSX-R 1000... :punk

A good friend of mine has an 04 RSV Factory R. It's a monster. I've ridden it twice and both times it caught be buy suprise. Mountains of torque. I don't know why there are people saying it's under powered. It doesn't have the top HP like a GSXR, but it stops it coming out of the corners. It doesn't have as much power, but it has more usable power.

I like it. I've never ridden one but I've ridden 'with' some of the big twins and between 40 and 80mph which is where most are hovering on the streets/twisties it's got big lumps of power from what I can tell. I'd love to try an RSV and compare it to my 750.

Being that it was mentioned that the V engine is formidable for the track, is this type of bike just as street friendly as it is track friendly? With that much gobs of torque and really only riding within the safe mph limits with the occasional speed burst on the highway i can certainly agree with the idea that i am using more usable power on an everyday use, over the idea that i can travel well beyond the means of street/highway speeds.

Maintenance wise i can assume this is no different then any other bike especially if it is a newer model out now.

Let's all step back and think about that for a second.....

I'm seriously considering one for my next bike since Honda stopped making the RC51 and it's really my only other reasonable option for a V twin.

Im not sure I understand where your coming from and I ask this with all due respect, Im not trying to be a smart ass..

Are you wanting a bike to ride and enjoy or a bike to park at Starbucks or do bike nights with and be different?

I dont understand why you would spend that much money on a bike just for the "wow" I rarely see them on the streets mentality. :dunno

:cheers

vs the 1098, its no comparison. 1098 wins

but if you want the looks and "uniqueness" of the rsv, i say go for it.
great looking bike, good to commute, sounds great with a set of pipes.

why you got to have a V-twin?
Cause I haven't had one yet. No other reason. Variety - so many bikes, so little time (and money).

Honda stopped the RC in 2006 here. Price and maintenance keep me away from Ducati. A 1098 is $2k more than an RSV, same premium for the 1098S over a Factory. I know nothing about the KTM, but I'm guessing it will start somewhere around $20k, assuming you can even get your hands on one.

I'm a former k1 1000 owner.

now I have 01 RSVR and a 04 RSVR factory. for 04+ make sure you get a factory (forged wheels, ohlins, etc). apes are geared really tall so a sprocket change will give it a big boost.

the RSVR has a great power band. you will not catch gixxer 1000 on the straight but the mille is a great handling bike. easy to ride fast in the twisties. you won't see many either. there are some quirks but all problems can be fixed easily as they are well documented. it's not the lightest bike out there (420lb wet) but the weight is in the right places. maintenance is easy the worst is a valve check every 10k miles (valve adjust is about $300) but they usually don't need adjustment.

sure the 1098 will beat it but it's a much newer machine and it also cost alot more. apes do lose their resale value so buy used if you can. great bargains can be found.

My brother has one I ride and rock's, race can, chip, airbox. To get the most out of the RSV you use the Track only setting's this jacks the rear up quite a bit, with the RSV its all about corner speed and exit speed, the thing hooks up like no other.
