Smart Tre info??

just wundering if anyone that has this mode can explain what exactly it is for and whats the price for it??

When Suzuki created the fuel injected bikes they programmed the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to retard the ignition timing in the first 3 gears. This goes for GSXR 600s, 750s & 1000s, TLRs, and Hayabusas. I have heard several theories about why they did this. One is that they wanted to limit the power if a squid grabbed a handfull of throttle. Another says they did it for better emissions. Whatever the reason they did it.

Some genius figured out that if you fool the ECU into thinking that it is in a higher gear than third you could eliminate the timing retard. Presto!! the TRE was born.

Several manufacturers make these. You will hear them called Ivan's TRE, G-Pack, or JSD. The Ivan's and G-Pack are way overpriced if you ask me. The JSD, sold by Jeff Wallace on Gixxer.com, comes in a switchable or non-switchable form both for a reasonable price. That's if you don't want to do it yourself.

The ECU gets a signal from a sensor on the bike called the Gear Position Switch (GPS) Each gear has a resistance associated with it. The ECU sees the voltage drop across the resistance and determines when to retard the bikes ignition based on the voltage drop. The Resistances and Voltages are approximated below.

Damn seems like a good mod for the bike but what i dont like is the fact that its always going to say ur on 5th gear....not sure i would want that.. thanks though, or atleast thats what happens on the 2007 models

Will always say 6th gear actually. The 600/750 TRE tricks into 6th gear, the 1000's and the Busa trick into 5th. Jeff Wallace (JSD Products) is working with another guy on here name of Motty in making a TRE that doesn't effect the gear indicator. From what I understand, all they're waiting on is connectors

I think he has one that now reads properly on the gear indicator.

Pretty worthless mod IMO...... but that is just MY opinion.

if they can find some way not to mess up the gear indicator ill do it

I have the Tre, and it was worth it for me. My bike reads 5th gear all the time, but it doesnt bother me.

Thats actually not too bad of a price for that. Not to steal the thread but how much more power are we talking? Is it that noticeable and will it interfere with a PC for any reason?

Damn still almost 100bucks more for the gear to be right, but yea anyone know how much more power is noticable???

There is a minimal amount of power that is noticeable. The biggest difference isin throttle response and engine braking in lower gears

more than likely NO!. That ECU is going to be tuned for your bike typically when it is installed, and thus any timing changes that need to be made already are.
