Hey guys

first posted here about 3 weeks ago regarding a 'for sale' GSXR. Well i drove 1.5 hrs to see her, liked what i saw, and drove her for the first time home in the rain, 10pm or so. Even in the pouring rain and crappy conditions (an under-construction highway on a cliffside) i still really loved driving it. So heres a few pics of my winter project:
ps. posted a decent resolution so you can get a good look :p

The night after i brought her home: all the damaged fairings rode home in my car + a few extras (fairing repair kit, RH stock turn, refurbished front fairing)

1.5 weeks later: few rides + wash.

Shes now stripped down of all fairings and gas tank. The only real thing ive done so far (besides winterizing) is removing the failing clutch switch , rewired the switch, and removed the semi-dangerous throttle lock. She needs work, but she was a fairly good deal, considering the prices of bikes in BC.

Once last question. on my last post i mention the PO installed a AFR 'on-the-go' adjustable knob. i tweaked it enough to get ok fuel mileage but not so much im scared of pinging and overheating.... but anyone know how it works ? Following the line it leads directly into the airbox :hammer .

Cheers,

I think you need to take pics of the "AFR" and post them so we get an idea of what exactly you have to deal with.
Plus go to the user cp and fill in the blanks......Location, bike year and so on.
And welcome to the obsession:cheers

For a picture of the AFR see the second picture. Look at the baby blue attachment to the frame. follow the line into the airbox. Thats about as much as i know so far as ive yet to crack that notorious air box. Also visible in the first picture.

Filling out user CP atm. If those pics are insufficient i can go get some more.

thanks for the welcome! I can assure you, the obsession is well underway! ON that note, has anyone found decent replacement mirrors ? The only ones i could find on fleabay were ugly "rice paddy shack" ones.

I've seen one before online, but don't remember where. I think it works like the old dial-a-jet setup. It reads the air velocity in the air box or intakes, the vacuum draws more fuel from the bowls. Had a dial-a-jet on my '85 600 Ninja back in the day and it worked real well. Crank it up at the drag strip, and then back down to ride home. I'd Google it and see what comes up.

If you get your Red R I think I have the one I saw mangled on your bike sittin on the shelf in my garage...not new but clean.

Ya'll will find that the R is all powerfull......not an "ask and ye shall recieve" sort a deal but a great outlet for those of us in the know:cheers

I looked for quite a while and ended up getting them from Suzuki. $50 US each. I've got a right side, but it's got some rash, but the mirrors not broke. Red R is definitely a bonus and well worth it.

Really nice bike you've got there. It looks really clean now!

Raining the night you picked it up huh? Imagine that... It's raining in BC :rolleyes

I haven't been out on the bike for about three weeks because the weather has been so nasty. The really good weather we had two weekends ago and I was up in kelowna... In a car :sad

haha, glad someone understands! Drove it from squamish to the GVRD... the sea-to-sky was crappy :p. My insurance ended ~ 1.5 weeks ago.. just before this monsoon. Supposed to clear up the next few days though! Have fun riding, hope to see you in the spring.

the first thing i would do is replace the left side passenger peg. what is up with it? other than that it looks really solid.

You must be looking at the first picture.... yea the PO had some 'custom' passenger footpegs installed. basically he cut a 50cm peice of aluminum rod, zapstrapped foam to it. apparently it was more comfy because on long distance rides (He seriously used it as a touring bike) he would do the 'superman'. Feet up or rear pegs, resting on gas tank :p anyways, if you look at the later pictures i already put the stockers back on (which he gave to me).

unless i missed it.... how much did u pay? ...WAITE that's not the bike that we just discussed from craigslist... the one that was speculated to be 'stolen'?
I didnt say, but i did list it in my original buying post. $1500. Which might seem high to you, but everything in vancouver is inflated.

Anyways guys, thanks for all the nice comments! Ill keep ya'll updated over the winter.

Monsoon is right :eek:hmy

I'm hitting the road this weekend so hopefully the rain will hold off. $1500... That's a great deal. It looks pretty clean now and should be easy enough to get plastic for. There's a guy in Port Coquitlam who probably has some. I don't have his contact info on hand but I think I saw his ad in BuySell.com

The PO bought an extra front fairing (which he included with the GSXR) from some guy in poco, but he couldnt remember his name. I checked buy and sell out and couldnt find him... maybe Bcsportbikes.com hold the answer ? Anyways, if the name come to you, fire me a PM! Good luck with the weather ;)
