Unless you have a BIG TIME hook up on paint and someone with the talent to do it, and/or an air compressor capable of running a pint gun sufficiently, it is a waste of money to do anything more than Rattle IMO.

Lets see....... $20 on a paintjob......... plus a set of tires $380
Nice fancy paint job................ $400 .............. Damn, there went the tires. I guess Ill just trailer it to the track so it can look pretty and ride on my shitty street tires.

Team bikes are one thing. Privateers racing on a budget is another.

Im tempted to ban the fucker..... jsut cause after reviewing his other posts he has been nothing but an asshat all over the board.

"Nice fancy paint job................ $400"

that takes care of the upper, now another $400 for the lower and rear...

the original poster makes it sound like he has access to a booth and gun,
which would make sense for asking which BRAND of paint to use.

however, stihorsepower, i think saying someone else's bike looks like shit is uncalled for.

i vote teh :ban

no doubt... House of Kolor for a TRACK BIKE... isnt that shit like $$$$ for just a quart of it :scratch

I mean if I had access to an air compressor that coul RUN a paint gun, a pint gun, and the talent to pull it off, id have done it with a gun... but I dont...... so I spent $20 and used cans. (well actually I spent $50, but ha enough to do it two or three times :lol)

HK is some change as I remember but comes out nice and is good quality :drool I used it on a couple cars in high school auto body.

Well I know this board is and banning...if you dont agree then you get the ban. I however think that stiHP was pretty abrasive and adamant about rattle can. I do agree that you will never get that "mirror shine" that you can achieve if you use a gun and good urethane paint but my buddies have some pretty bombass paint that has lasted almost 4 years.

I myself ran into this problem just recently as I have used aaron yates old plastics for my track bike for the past year and a half. They were professionally painted and have withstood rock chips, loading, and rough handling when thrown aside...so I was either going to paint it myself and rattle can it with good paint, either house or colorrite and the prices added up as I wanted to do a 4 color paint scheme plus clear coat. I know that I could have chosen to use much cheaper paint but I wanted the colors I wanted. It was way more than I wanted to spend and have the potential to do a crap job. I wanted to do it myself as I was stoked on the idea of this project.

I ended up getting the paint done by my guy and am stoked since he does the paint for Graves Yamaha, Yoshimura Suzuki, Hypercycle, and other AMA privateers.

I am picking up my bodywork today and will post up.

I do know why everyone is all defensive as I would feel the same way if I did my bodywork....I had planned on spending days....to paint my scheme and make it perfect(as perfect as I could). I know how great rattle can can come out especially if you gun the clearcoat. It looks sick!!!

I decided to go with the professional as my time is worth more than I wanted to spend on painting the bodywork.

I have mad respect for the pimp rattle cans and felt that if I spent 3 days or so and wadded it I would be more bummed if I had just had my guy do it.

To each his own...

Hey, I've no problem with a different opinion than mine . . . but there's no reason to be so rude ya know ;)

And what the hell? Just because you have a different opinion than a mod doesn't mean you're going to get banned, that's just silly :wacko

Alright you fuggers quit discouraging the guys who like nice paint on their trackbikes!! That $$ is what helps keep me racing!:hammer :cheers

For the record, whether you like it or not, a rattle can job won't come close to a nice base/clear job shot by someone who knows what they're doing. Now don't get me wrong, like Joe and Dilly (among others...) are saying, a rattle can job CAN look pretty damn decent for the money but you guys are comparing apples and oranges!

yes, your right it is a very good paint manufacture and they have some amazing specialty paints and effects. i use it with all my airbrushing and painting. i'll buy HOK before any other paint brand.

but wow people... apparently everyone cant read. but its ok ill simplify what i said previously. i said rattle can DOES look like shit (i don't care who's bike it is on). rattle canning a bike is a sad excuse for a paint job for a street bike.... hence the reason i said IT IS OK b/c its a track bike MEANING spray painting a track bike is understandable. SOOO now you all can take back your douche bag Red_Saphire like comments and as for my accident asshole you were not there so don't come to me saying i cant ride or know how to use the brakes. to me thats like if i were to walk up to you and punch you in the face then call the cops on you and say you assaulted me... just fucking retarded is it not it? but anyway i would like to say thanks for asking if i was ok and if i am doing better you really show me that you care about a fellow rider and a board member. your a real stand up guy!!

and for the record i do like the color scheme dilly:punk !! BUT for a street bike its unacceptable in my book to spray paint a bike b/c of the crap quality and finish of the paint.:nono

We're not talking about street bikes though, this is about TRACK bikes ;)

Also, you didn't have to say our bike looked like shit man . . .we put alot of effort in it - I'm damn proud of it ;)

Oh, and Joe is a stand up guy . . . but you insulted our work & I didn't appreciate that ;)

Quiggles, honestly . . . if we did have the money, we'd get it done professionally as well . . . but we're just starting out & it all goes to tires & entry fees right now :lol Rattle can is for guys on a tight budget ;)

Read the forum description here......... and think about this again....... where did you get STREET BIKE from? Nobody here has mentioned a street bike....... my bike is a RACE BIKE on a budget. This post is in the TRACK DAY forum, which makes it easy to infer that he is talking about TRACK BODYWORK.........
hence the reason i said IT IS OK b/c its a track bike MEANING spray painting a track bike is understandable.
It was your sentance formation then that didnt get your meaning across
rattle can is shit.... its simple. you WILL NOT get a mirror shine like you will with a paint gun and some nice paint. and your rattle can bike does look like shit and it does not matter b/c its on the track
that is taken like "I dont care if it is on the track, it still looks like shit"

SOOO now you all can take back your douche bag Red_Saphire like comments and as for my accident asshole you were not there so don't come to me saying i cant ride or know how to use the brakes.
I dont have to be there..... IF it 15mph you cant out maneuver a van.... well...... :squid

No I dont care......... I went back and looked thru your posts (hint, be an asshat to a moderator, and it brings attention to yourself... IF I baned you it would NOT be solely because I dont like you, it is because MOST of your posts have been negative and bashing towards others as well) and I dont give a shit about people who are assholes.

and for the record i do like the color scheme dilly:punk !! BUT for a street bike its unacceptable in my book to spray paint a bike b/c of the crap quality and finish of the paint.:nono

Again nobody said anything about STREET BIKES...............

Quig. There is a place for your services, and if I was close enough, and big ballin enough......... and could stop crashing LOL....... Id pay to have mine done proffesionally.

But you have to admit, that for a guy who is new to track riding, or racing on a budgett, that your services are NOT the smartest allocation of your racing budget now is it.
