Situation:
My friend has an 06 GSX-R 600. We went to race one day but he couldn't because his FI light kept coming on. So we called it a day and he called the dealership. He just made it 5 days before his warranty ran out. He dropped it off at the shop for the work. He called yesterday and they told him that because they did a lot of work on it that they were going to have to charge him $35. :wtf . For what?! Warranty work. I would think that it had to be covered under warranty because this bike is totally bone stock. Not even so much as an air filter so I know it was nothing he put on to make it do that. They told him that they were doing him a favor because they only charged him for 1/2 hour. Charged him for labor even though it is still covered under warranty.

Question:
Can they do this?

What if he refuses to pay for it and they threaten to keep his bike, what is the next step?

Could we take it up with someone higher then the owner?

This sounds like total bullshit. I think that they are not making enough money off of the warranty so they are trying to stick it to him.

Take your cell phone and call Suzuki USA from the sales counter. When they hear you say "I want to file a complaint againt a dealership", you'll be handed your keys.

I had a similar situation on my car. I bought a bumper to bumper extended warranty. Apparently, a mounting bolt fell out of the passenger door's window motor. They wanted to charge me for it. I looked the manager straight in the face and said "so if it breaks it's warrantied, if it falls apart it's not". His reply was not what I wanted to hear, so I said "ok, say the crank falls out of the engine... you wouldn't warranty that?". He said "of course". I asked him what the difference was. He mumbled something and I said "give me a phone book". He asked why and I said, "first, I'm calling the better business bureau, then I'm calling Pontiac customer service and telling them what a shifty dealer you are". He handed me the keys and said "we'll take care of it". I said "thanks, where's the phone book, I'm still calling the Better business bureau simply because you tried to screw me for $300".

I feel the same way about Toyota now. I bought a Pontiac Vibe which is made by Toyota (Matrix clone)

With just 34,000 miles we have had the following problems:

Battery went bad
Oxygen sensor bad
roof trip flew off
emblems badly faded
steering wheel shakes even with new tires and balance checked twice
air condition falure 3 times
sloppy shifter
warped rotors
Stock tires had a wear rating of just 200. My Z/28 tire are better than that and they are Z rated!

What EXACTLY did the dealer say they did as extra work???

If you only broght it in for the warranty claim, then it should be no charge.
If they "opted" to do work you didn't authorize, then they can't turn around and ask you to pay for unauthorized work.
Now if you said just have a look over the bike or check this or that and it wasn't a warranty item, they could charge for a check over or something like that?

As for the Pontiac guys' experience. Mine was the same. They kept saying we needed an air conditioner service and a serpentine belt. So we authorized the serpentine belt but the car didn't have air conditioning.
Very next service 3 months later; they advised we need the air conditioner serviced a a serpentine belt. !!! WTF !!! Tranny fell apart a month later with 30,000 miles.

I've driven the hell out of my Vibe GT. I bought it in April of 2002. Since then, I've put on aftermarket rotors (stockers are junk) and set of longer lasting tires. Those Dunlop 9000 were nice and sticky but didn't last long and sucked in the snow. It's got 94,000 miles on it now and still going strong. There has been a few things that I didn't like. The black paint on the stereo buttons has worn off, the leather on the steering wheel and shifter have kind of peeled, and I also had an O2 sensor go bad. They replaced the O2 sensor(s) and CAT under warranty, but allowed me to pay the difference between their cost of OEM and Bosch sensors (they said the OEM sensors are junk). I think it cost me $15. It's just typical stuff. That's what happens to quality when companies move their manufacturing to "cheap labor" countries. Cars are just big assemblys of parts and parts are built by people, and people can be stupid, tired, pissed off, etc.

Hell, most people here own GSXRs and there's tons of posts are about problems with them.... but we still buy them. It's just luck of the draw.

yea...most definitely your FAULT for buying a pontiac. you had a CHOICE to buy a different car, but you CHOSE to buy that car. in no way is pontiac at fault, because YOU are the one that bought the car.

(for the guys that don't know, the geek has a horrible/DUMB sense of logic that he attacked me with, so im just using his OWN logic against him).

If 35 bucks is a stretch why the hell are on they on a bike new enough to be still covered by warranty? Living beyong their means... Now they must deal with it.
:wtf No one asked your opinion of my friend. I asked for an opinion of a situation. So just because he has found himself in a rut he should be fucked up the ass by who ever wants to? Just because he has to postpone some other arrangements because he is light on funds at the moment, he should just pay the $35 and deal with it even if what they are charging for is BS? God forbid anyone who has some unexpected expenses be a little short on money sometime in their life. Tell me what average person has never been late on a bill, never owed more then they can pay at the time, never ran into some unexpected situations that caused a financial bind.

So my previous question stands.
"Just because he has found himself in a rut he should be fucked up the ass by who ever wants to?"
