What is the advantages and disadvantages of wraping your exaust maifold with tape. i see it all the time on race bikes just curious what effect it would have on a street bike and does it really lower the temp???

It CAN add a few ponies. It also saves bodywork that may be a bit close to the exhaust.

As exhaust cools, it gets denser, and slows down on its way out of the pipe. By wrapping it you keep it hot and theoretically thus keep it moving so the motor doesnt have to work as hard to push it out. Makes the motor more efficient, the faster you can get air in, and out of a motor the better. It also should keep the engine area and oil pan a bit cooler by not radiating heat to them.

Main thing is protecting bodywork IMO though

I respnded to your other thread on this. I don't think it will be much of an advantage. It's done on cars to keep underhood temps down - you don't have that problem. I also don't think the exhaust scavanging effect will be that great, if any. It will move a ton of heat back to the muffler though and if you have a CF or something it may start to degrade quickly.

Heat shielding is why most peeps put it on the midpipe
