In Florida you don't need insurance for bikes, even when they are financed most of the time. Anyways, even though I paid in full for my bike, I bought insurance at the dealer so the ride home was insured. I just called up every insurance company and did the ask for a quote routine. Progressive gave me the best quote at $675 a year for the coverage I wanted. No problem, so I sign up. That was June 30th, and last week I get mail from them saying that I fraudulently declared myself a homeowner, and my new policy was now $1584 a year. I called and they said it was "typical" of sportbike owners to give out info to drop their rates.

What the FUCK is that? :thumbdown

They prorated my policy so that even though I paid 3/4 of the year, I am only insured until September 15th. I told them it was excellent being a Progressive customer, and I would make fellow sportbike owners aware of the situation I had to deal with.

I turn 25 in October and was hoping for some sort of break on insurance, but instead it goes up 250%.

I figured Id just let you guys know of the great experience I had with them, and give the advice to not be loyal to an insurance company, because the guy up on top (or the cubicle robot) sure as hell doesn't give two shits about you. That goes for pretty much every burecratic insititution in life. :rolleyes

Allstate did the same to me when I turned 25. They said my premiums would go down, and when I went into the office to ask why it didn't, they said "Oh, our mistake." and raised it by $125 per month.

I recently got a quote through State Farm to insure the bike for $30 per month, but they wouldn't sell it to me because I didn't already have insurance. They said the underwriters wouldn't insure a bike that wasn't insured. What the hell does that mean? The bike was new you DUMB ASS! Fuckin' idiots, all of them.

You both are victims of the actuarial table.

OP: You got zapped because the actuarial tables say that homeowners are more likely to be safer drivers and more stable.

Second poster: You just got hosed... no way around that. If you wanna get that good State Farm deal, get insured with the most piece of shit insurance co. you can find with the lowest rate for the lamest coverage. Roll with em for 6 months (perfect timing for the hurricane season) then snatch up the State Farm policy.

I was with Progressive since I bought my bike in '02. The rates have been going down every year, and then they decided to raise them this year. No claims ever filed, clean record, etc. I switched to State Farm and pay $34/mo for the same coverage and a $50 ded. I'll be turing 25 at the end of November.

Progressive blows!!!!!

My mom wrecked her bike and Progressive wouldn't pay the claim because they said she wasnt covered. Hmmmm, the bike is her name, the insurance policy is in her name and she was listed as the primary driver. Once they admitted she was covered, they nickled and dimed everything saying it could be fixed. The front wheel was completely taco'd, but they said it could be straightened in a vice, they refused to pay for a new wheel or even the labor to "straighten" it. It took 9 months from the time the claim was filed before they paid anything. Even then, they didn't pay the agreed upon amount.

To top it off, my mom got some money from the bike manufacturer because of a possible defect that may have caused the crash. Progressive found out about the money and sued my mom for the entire amount of the money she recieved even though it was more than twice than the amount that they paid out. The case was eventually thrown out because they had no claim to it since the money was for pain and mental anguish and not for physical damage.

It was a very messed up situation that was never made right. Fortunatly, we had a good mechanic that stood up to the adjusted or we would have lost our ass.

Bottom line. Fuck Progressive. Stay away.

Wow... thats fucked up. I had a good experience with Progressive when my Kanatuna got stolen (prolly why I stayed with them too long). The claims guy was real cool. I was supposed to have to wait another week and half before they paid out, but he cut me a check so I could go looking that holiday weekend.

I know it also varies between the dealers. The first All State office I went to said they "Would not insure anything with an R in the name". I've talked to two since that would cover it, but they still won't let me buy insurance without having insurance already. I keep asking them if it's legal to have two policies on the same bike, and they say no. So if I had insurance and walked in and bought their's, that would be illegal. I love getting the sales people into situations where they can't answer my questions. In the end I always walk out, waving good-bye with my cash!
